16th Anniversary Trip Visual Journal: Daily Art Practice

Couch Talk

My son turned 15 this past week and he requested this artery clogging Reese cake. The frosting for this cake takes 2 cups of butter (4 sticks) and 9 cups of confectioners’ sugar. Yes, 9 cups! I am not a peanut butter lover like he is, but I do like this cake. If you want the recipe, it is HERE. Now that our few weeks of birthday parties are over, I can relax and lose a few pounds.

Daily Art Practice

As summer draws closer, I am excited to add some more pages to my travel journal. I recently put the finishing touches on our 16th anniversary trip to Lancaster, PA.

My title page is a map of the places we visited.

In the past, we have stayed at Bed and Breakfast, but since my husband and I have started counting calories we have found the breakfasts to be too heavy. This past year, we stayed at The Cork Factory Hotel. They offered coffee and tea every morning, which was perfect for us.

Sight and Sound is always a favorite activity while we are in Lancaster. The show David was playing, and it was AMAZING!

Outlet shopping is where we restock clothing items we may need. This year we got some great deals on shoes.

One night we had dinner at Dienner’s, which I would not recommend. The food was very disappointing. But we always have Chick-Fil-A. We usually eat lunch there as it is our favorite “fast food” restaurant.

A new restaurant to us, Smokehouse BBQ and Brews, was SO delicious! The smoked meat was flavorful, and they were not skimpy on the portions.

We all love Lego’s in our house and my husband and I spent a whole afternoon at Brick Heads, making individualized mini figures for our children.

One evening we went miniature golfing at Professor Hacker’s Lost Treasure Golf. My husband won, of course, but just by 2 points.

My very favorite meal of the trip was Mojo Asian Cuisine and Sushi Bar.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a visual journey of our trip.

Tea Day

I am joining in with the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is Jasmine Tea.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • I often visit my brother in Lancaster, but I’ve never been to any of the places you mention, except the outlet malls.. I remember some very nice restaurants but all prior to the pandemic. Your anniversary celebration looks like fun… many happy returns!

  • The cake looks wonderful, Kate! Wow, I am so impressed your made it. Amazing, but so is that travel journal. Wonderful drawings/paintings, and super cool pictures and food. This may be my favorite thing you have posted! Wow again. Happy T-day and hugz

  • It sounds like a wonderful and fun 16th Anniversary trip. You found time for shopping, a play, and even golf, along with Lego making. Oh the food sounds good, too.

LOVE that cake. It sounds decadent, too. I love jasmine tea, so I would gladly join you. Thanks for sharing your son’s cake, your anniversrary trip, and your tea with us for T this Tuesday, Kate.

  • Your drawings are amazing Kate. That is a super travel journal you created. And so much of your trip is about food-which I love. (Even though we usually skip lunch when we travel-big breakfast and an early dinner works for us, but who can wrong with a visit to Chick-Fil-a?) And your son’s birthday cake looks very very yummy. IYum-peanut butter.) It looks like you bought it at a bakery it came out so pretty. I hope you have a great T day and week ahead. Good luck with your calorie cutting back too. hugs-Erika

  • Your trip journal is wonderful. Brick Heads sounds like a really fun place. I’d love creating my own figures. the cake you baked is impressive . My girlies were lucky to get a boxed cake with tub frosting slapped on it. 😺 Happy T and Pi Day

  • That cake looks very decadent and very delicious. I’m not abig peanut fan myself, but I’m pretty sure that I would have enjoyed this cake.
How sad that you didn’t like Dienner’s. Is that the one in Ronks? We went there when we were in that area and it was great. Granted, this is several years ago, but at that time it was delicious and reminded us a lot of home.

  • I love your anniversary journal. How clever to paint the map of the places you went. Okay, I can’t bake that Reese cake, Wow!
    Happy T Day, Kate.

  • Your Lancaster looks very different to our UK Lancaster, There’s a lot to keep you occupied in fun activities too! I love the sketches in your travel journal. Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx
