A Date With Crazy Cats: Daily Art Practice

Couch Talk

Over the weekend, my husband and I went on a date! It has been a while and I was dying to show him the newest coffee/tea shop in our area. They have a limited but delicious menu with a Gluten-free option. After lunch, we drove to the local greenhouse /nursery and looked at all the beautiful flowers and fruit trees. Whenever I visit, I get the urge to go outside and pull weeds. Maybe I need to visit more often because pulling weeds is my least favorite part of gardening. It was always a task that I disliked growing up and having my own yard hasn’t changed my mind. It is one of my top chores to delegate to the children when they need something to do. After lunch, we took the long way home, past farms, open fields, and stopped at a park to walk along the river. It ended up being a beautiful day, temperature wise. And then of course Sunday we were all wearing winter coats to church due to the chilling rain. On the bright side, winter has never lasted the entire year so that is encouraging.

Sketchbook Revival

I found some time to cram in some more Sketchbook sessions this week during my exercise time. Bouncing on an exercise ball is my exercise of choice and I love that I can do it while watching TV, talking on the phone or listening to a book. I was able to watch several sessions and then go back later to sketch.

Hera are a few more pages from my sketchbook that I made while playing along with Sketchbook Revival 2022. One of the most interesting classes was making cats out of numbers. I enjoyed this exercise immensely as it really stretched my brain.

My daughter watched part of the video with me and played along on her own. She is eager to share this technique with her teacher at school today. Here is what she made. As you can see, she gave each cat a name.

Lastly, I am sharing the Blobs to Birds. It was a fun idea and one I need to practice more. Mine is definitely a bit wonky but a great exercise for more practice.

Tea Day

I am joining the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is Kombucha. I took a break from making it for a while but I am getting back into it again as I am trying to work on my gut health after antibiotics. Strawberry is my go-to flavor but I used apple juice instead this week and it was surprisingly tasty. I may have to experiment some more this summer.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Good morning, glad you were able to get out for a date night I never enjoyed pulling weeds either, over the years I relied on thick mulch of cardboard or newspapers on the bottom topped with straw. makes a big difference and provides moisture during sunny hot days.
always enjoy seeing your art the cats are my favorite and wonderful your daughter painted them too.
    Happy T

  • Your daughter has an amazing ability to capture a cat face! I love her sketch page, and the names of the cats. (Yours are also nice).

  • Sounds like you had a fun date with your hubby – perfect 😀. I love your kitty cat and bird paintings, those faces are so expressive. Fab tea too, I’d happily join you for a glass! Happy T Day! Hugs Jo x

  • Those are warmups?! Sweet! That sounds like my kind of date 🙂 My space is so small weeding doesn’t take long, but I like the other parts of gardening better. Happy T Tuesday!

  • Your cat portraits are awesome and your daughter’s are so sweet. I love the names of her kitties. Blob birds look fun. My favorites are the cat birds. Happy T Day

  • Date night is such a good practice to keep especially when a couple has young ones at home yet. Sounds like you and hubby had a lovely day:). I loved the Faith Evans Sills lesson and definitely will do more than the one I did which I’ll share next post. I found that one calming and meditative. Fun cats and birds- and your daughter did a fab job with hers!! I ended up enjoying the blob birds lesson but did not do the cat one. The kombucha sounds good but if there’s caffeine in it I won’t be able to have it…
    happy T Day!

  • Its good to have a date with your hubby! We do it all the time.. Now that neither of us work its not difficult to arrange as before.. I enjoy watching your sketchbook journey.. Happy T day! Hugs! deb

  • These are the two lessons I enjoyed the most in Sketchbook Revival. Your cats are a lot of fun nd I think your birds turned out beautifully. How lovely that your daughter did her own cats as well – good idea to tell her teacher about this technique.

  • It must have been fun to go out with the hubby and no kids. I always enjoyed it when my daughter was young and living at home. And the kitties were fun to see, both yours and your daughters. Your daughter has a lot of talent I think., just like her mom. I hope you had a happy T day and have a great week ahead. hugs-Erika

  • Oh, my goodness, your daughter did great! I love your bird blobs. Your post brought smiles to my face tonight, Kate. Happy t day.

  • Having a date must have been a real treat. Especially without the young ones. It sounds really perfect, too.

I finally spent four hours on Sunday and watched seven artists. One was the cats. I loved what you and your daughter made, I suspect her cats will be better than any I could ever make. I missed the blobs, though.

I know Lisca has made Kombucha. before, so I hope you have good luck with yours. Thanks for sharing the lovely sketches and your Kombucha. with us for T this Tuesday, Kate.

  • I love love love your number cats and your daughter’s are fab too Kate. Yet to finish my take on the class, like everything else = unfinished lol. Funnily enough I have just been pulling heads off of dandelions as they have all just sprung up after the rain, and they annoy me. I have actually just started a batch of kombucha too! Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx
