Antiquing Makes The Perfect Date: Daily Art Practice

Life hasn’t been very exciting, just busy and busy doesn’t give me a lot to write about unfortunately.
Isn’t this teacup lovely? I almost purchased it, but I don’t drink out of teacups due to the small volume and I didn’t think it a savvy purchase just for painting. This cup and saucer were made out of porcelain with painted gold details.
Daily Art Practice
A few weeks ago, I had an artist date at an Antique Mall not far from where I live. Before going, I decided to take pictures of items that were interesting or inspiring to paint at a later date. Afterwards, I went to a coffee shop, got a cup of hazelnut oolong tea and came home to drink my tea and paint my pictures. It was quite rejuvenating, and I felt inspired and excited to document my outing.
Browsing the stalls, I came across several items that reminded me of childhood. I found a set of dishes that were the exact pattern that my Mom had while I was growing up. I also had a Raggedy Ann Doll and one of these Fisher Price Cash Registers.
There was a box of empty beer cans and I found “Max’s” interesting with it’s colorful blue and yellow scene. This lovely vintage dress was for sale and it was a great price, but I wasn’t going to buy something I couldn’t try on first.
Isn’t this Halloween mask funny? I loved the vibrant colors and the facial expression despite it being old and flimsy. I can’t imagine what one would do with it. Throw rugs were in abundance in one of the stalls and I liked the colors on this one. Lastly, there was this mug based off Krakel Spektakel. I don’t know anything about it other than it is Swedish. It was so pretty, and I would have purchased it just for the illustration, but it was $38. A little steep for a mug.
So, this is what I found inspiring on my Artist Date.
Tea Day
I am joining the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is Tiesta Tea Maui Mango Pineapple . My husband and I were away last week, and I found this tea at Walmart. It’s been ages since I have tasted it, and it is every bit as delicious as I remembered.

I love seeing familiar items from my childhood at antique shops, but I generally don’t buy them. Once I found an identical cut-glass container exactly like the one my mother used for her face powder on her dresser. I had the one my mother used, so I bought the duplicate for my sister, so now we both have the memory item. That was very satisfying.

An art date at an antique mall sounds quite exciting. I bet there’s a lot to draw. And that is a pretty teacup, but I agree, they are rather small to drink from. But they are so pretty to look at., aren’t they? I hope you have a not so busy week ahead and have a great T day too. hugs-Erika

I haven’t been to an antique store since they closed both in my city, You seem to have had fun, even if you didn’t get the dress you wanted.. No toilets? So sad . Limits the chances of a sake, Enjoyed seeing your cute drawings, too. Your artist date looks like it was lots of fun and I love how you documented your special time in your journal. The black tea cup is very beautiful. I was told if you are collecting teacups, you must have (at least) one black teacup in your collection. Happy T Day
Such fun when you see things from your childhood at an antiques sale. But also worrying, as it means you are getting old! Lol!
That tea cup is gorgeous but as you say, too small, and probably too precious to actually use.

Oh I love that tea cup. I used to collect tea cups but years ago gave them to my DIL. You know I love your art and I do finde the mask very nice indeed. Have a nice evening.

Sometimes busy days make for quiet stories. The teacup’s charm is tempting, though practicality wins. The porcelain elegance is hard to resist. The Halloween mask’s humor and aged character add a unique touch, even if its purpose remains a mystery.
