Aprons and Coffee Shops: Daily Art Practice

Couch Talk

My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day because we believe that love should be shown every day, in small ways, instead of just once a year. Personally, I think Valentine’s Day is a money-making holiday for businesses but this year, I opted to do something different. Over the past few months, my husband has been cooking dinner with me every evening, and he needed a sturdier apron than the ones we had on hand. I found this Mr. and Mrs. Apron Set and thought it perfect. While we are not newlyweds, we are still a Mr. & Mrs. so we qualify. I am very happy with the quality of the aprons, and I like that they have pockets AND adjustable neck straps.

Shopfront

It has been a while since I painted a shopfront, but I am now one shopfront closer to completing my goal. This shopfront is a local coffee shop, East End Coffee CO, that just opened up this second location last year. The brick building is very old with a charming exterior. After starting the painting, I found a different photo reference which I liked better, showing more of the building and the window boxes overflowing with summer foliage. If I ever decide to paint this building again, I will definitely use that one. Regardless, I like the reference I used as it has a better view of the interior.

Tea Day

I am joining the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is an oldie, but still a favorite that I drink daily. This tea is so delicious with a hint of calming peppermint.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • I really like that apron set. And I love it when my husband helps me with dinner. That’s a great photo of the two of you in your aprons. And I’m glad to see another shop front. Those bricks must have taken awhile to paint, but they look like real bricks. I hope you have a wonderful T day Kate. And a nice week ahead too. hugs-Erika

  • Hi Kate, I loved seeing you and your husband with your new aprons. Nice that you both enjoy making foods together.
I always love seeing your art-Happy T Hugs Kathy

  • Those matching aprons and mitts are adorable. Nice gift, too. They look sturdy.

What a beautiful building you painted. I was drawn to the window panes at the top. It was good to see the interior, too.

Your tea looks great. I like peppermint and if it actually tames tension, it is a good tea. Thanks for sharing your aprons, your drawing, and your tea with us for T this Tuesday, dear Kate..

  • I agree that all holidays are just for companies to increase thier bottom lines. Mr. M. and I celebrate our 42 years everyday by some small or large getsture. I do love the matching aprons and mits though. I am happy to see your shop painting too. Have great day today.

  • Yes, we´re with you on the Valtentine´s “thing”.
Cute aprons, ha, you should see Ingo´s, LOL. I have to hide it when family comes… 😉

Wonderful shopfront! Very great. Big WOW.

Love peppermint and the label is great, too!
    Happy T-Day!

  • His and Hers aprons. So cute. Your shop front makes me want to go inside and huff the coffee smell. I love the smell of ground coffee beans, but don’t like the taste of coffee. I’d rather have a cup of tea. Happy T Day

  • What a lovely apron set. I firmly believe in aprons as I tend to be a bit messy. One day when I had visitors, I decided to take my apron off as most of the food was already cooked. Of course I managed to get my hands dirty and out of habit I wiped them on my non-existing apron. Result: nice outfit messed up! Ughhh!
Cooking together is really an act of love I believe. It could be a little bit of private time together perhaps. Or perhaps the children help too, I don’t know…
The coffee shop is delightful. How nice to have one nearby. Your painting is lovely.
I’m sorry I had the wrong video on my blog. I have corrected it now. (Or perhaps you did enjoy Isaiah set to music.)
    Belated happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca
