Art Begins With a Vision: Mixed Media Art Journal Layout
It Begins With A Vision
We all have visions. Visions of what we want to be when we grow up, where we will be living or who we will be living with. As life goes on and I get older I am changing. And so are my visions. No longer do I read the sweet romance novels and dream of some faceless handsome man rescuing me from the elements of nature or the occasional brush with danger.
Now I am dreaming and envisioning my daughter running around in pretty mommy-made dresses, my art journals being published in magazines, making Pinterest worthy home decor, storing and making unforgettable memories with family and my bank account over flowing from doing something I love.
Although, I am very far from completing my visions at this point in time, I love that they can change with every season of life. That I am not bound to the youthful and unrealistic aspirations of a young girl.
I found my handsome rescuer, although he has never rescued me from the elements of nature or any brush with danger. But the other day he did look hunky as he attached jumper cables to my car, in the rain, when I got stuck at the bus stop due purely to my stupidity about the science of cars. I love that now I have a face to my handsome man and that we have three beautiful little faces running around. And these days, my visions are mostly centered around them!
Creating The Journal Layout
I started these pages by stenciling with grunge paste. I wanted to try out my new PaperArtsy stencil. After the paste dried, I washed the background with gesso. I then added paints, sprays and PaperArtsy Infusions to create the color and drips. I used a script stamp over the background to create a little more texture.
I added a little bit of doodling to the edges to pop the stenciled words to the front. I put down some gauzy fiber and then added my stamps as embellishments over top. For this layout, I pulled out my Wendy Vecchi stamps and a few others that have been long forgotten.
Thank you for visiting and for always leaving such interactive and nice comments. I LOVE reading through them.

It’s good to have visions and dreams. I hope that many of yours will be fulfilled. Your journal page is beautiful, love all the texture and dimension. Great embellishments, too. Enjoy your lovely family! Hugs, Valerie
This is stunning. I especially like how you outlined the stenciled letters so they would stand out. And those new stencils are fabulous, too. BTW, I think you are on the verge of having your dream fulfilled. I think this is a perfect example of great art and art journal. The texture, the colors, the stamping, all add up to a fabulous spread.
Wonderful art journal pages dear Kate ! You are such an inspiration! I enjoyed your thoughts – just heard
a very old song during lunch with my daughter — and I think that is exactly fitting your thoughts.
