Beauty and Style: Mixed Media Art Journal

We had a wonderful Easter weekend with family celebrating Jesus’s resurrection. Sunday morning was a little chaotic as I was trying to get dinner in the oven and get out of the house on time for church. But I was able to snap a few pictures before we left. Here is one of the pictures I took of my daughter in her Easter outfit. The ensemble is an Alexandra Dress, made of pink linen, underneath an Autumn Pinafore , made with a bunny print and a matching purse. She’s pretty cute, isn’t she?

I love spending my time making pretty things for my sweet girl to wear. Life is short and she will only be little for a short time longer. It makes me happy to see her twirl in front of the mirror in her mommy made dresses. I love when she asks me to get one of her purses down from the hook so she can carry it around the house, putting odds and ends inside. Or when she doesn’t want to take her dress off after she tries it on for the first time.

Of course I think my girl is the most beautiful ever, regardless of what she wears. Her sweetness, sassy personality and funny faces have a way of making my heart melt.

Creating the Layout

I made this layout for my daughter’s art journal.  The stamps are by PaperArtsy. I made a coffee filter flower stamped and colored. The fabric scraps are left over from my daughter’s dresses.

I used PaperArtsy Infusions and Paints to color the stamps and the background.

Tea Day

Today, I am joining the ladies of T Day over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard’s.  I am sharing my new set of yummy teas that I received from Tiesta Tea. I wrote a month or so ago that I bought some tea that I had to send back due to a terrible flavor. Some of you asked what happened. Well, I contacted customer service at Tiesta Tea and they apologized and sent me some tea mail. And this is what I got in the mail today! I will be sharing pictures in future posts.

Happy Tea Day,

  • your journal spread is just beautiful and full of love Kate. Your girl is so darling, and how lucky is she to have such a loving and creative mamma-who can make her outfits! How nice when a company’s customer service does a dutiful, nice job-hope these teas are much better. Happy T day!

  • of course your girl is the most beautiful girl in the world:)) enjoy the years she is proud wearing selfmade dresses… maybe she will sew some herself one day? beautiful layout:) and your teas look great, too. happy t-day:)

  • I was hoping we got to see the little cutie in her new Easter dress Kate. It really came out quite nice. She looks happy in it too. I remember my daughter started getting fussy at 2 about ehr clothes-she still is-and I once made her a dress and then she wouldn’t wear it. And I love the art today also. The hearts are a wonderful addition. Happy T day. hugs-Erika

  • Your little girl is adorable and looks so proud of her new dress and matching purse. It’s very cute. Scraps from the dresses are a lovely way to remember favorites. That journal will be beautiful. Happy T Day

  • I love this intriguing layout and the photo of your sweet charming girl in her beautifull dress with even the fitting bag – reminds me of the time my grandmothers sewed the most beautiful outfits for me as I was a little one! I never sewed much for my girl as the fabrics would have been more expensive for me than all the amazing lovely ready made things I found for her on the different fleamarkets as she was little.
    Happy T-Day dear Kate!
    Hugs, Susi

  • Your daughter is as pretty as a picture. The outfit you made looks beautiful and she looks so happy to be wearing it.
The page is also lovely, the scrapbook will be a wonderful keepsake.
I hope the new teas will be good, the company seems to value the customer comments they recieve.
    Happy T day wishes Kate.

  • What a lovely picture of your pretty little one in her Easter dress. The dress is beyond adorable, Kate. Beautiful muse about your daughter as well.

Gorgeous page. I love the coffee filter flower, especially how you stamped and colored it. Charming.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  • your daughter is completely adorable! I too remember the days of sewing dresses for my little girl, precious memories for sure. a lot of late nights to get done in time for a holiday or event because I’m a procrastinator. lol. You do gorgeous journal pages…fabric scraps makes them even more special. Happy T day!

  • Your art is beautiful, and your little cutie looks fantastic. I used to love sewing for my daughter when she was small, enjoy the time! It goes by so quickly. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  • I’m sorry for being so late visiting. After being out all day, I came home, expecting to get on the internet and leave comments. However, what happened was I fell asleep and just woke a short time ago. The boys were so good and I laid down with them just for a second. That turned into at least five hours.

What a genuine beauty this mixed media beauty is. I love the use of a coffee filter and scraps from your daughter’s dresses. Speaking of dresses, your daughter is a stunning young lady and a real beauty, She will grow up around a camera, I’m sure.

Congratulations on the follow through with the tea. Looks like you were well rewarded, too. Thanks for sharing your good fortune with us for T this Tuesday, Kate.

  • Sorry I’m late, drove me mad trying to get in to comment via my ipad, much easier on my PC, I must say your little cute is so cute and the dress and little bag are gorgeous, I used to knit jumpers etc when our boys were young but as they grew bigger it was easier to buy them!
I love your artwork, it’s beautiful.
    Enjoy your Tea and Day

  • Your daughter looks so pretty in her new dress. Clever mummy! I love the material. I know how she feels because my grandmother always used sew our clothes. My sister is a year and a half younger but we would get the same clothes. We were always very well dressed and I too wanted to keep the dress on after a fitting. That was back in the days when we still wore dresses (or frocks).
Your journal page for your daughter is gorgeous. Such a good idea to use material from her old dresses. I hope that when she grows up, she will remember the fabric. I still remember all of my dresses from when I was small. (But then in those days we didn’t have that many. )
I’m so pleased that you got some nice tea back after your complaint. That is real customer service.
    Happy belated T-Day,
