Cake and Succulents
Cake
Who wants a piece of cake? I made this vanilla layer cake this weekend for my daughters birthday party. I intended to make a Naked Cake but after adding all the layers I decided to just leave it. You can imagine I was afraid it might topple over if moved it too much. It turned out a lot taller than I expected but I guess that it what happens when you stack 8 layers with frosting and strawberries. For the top, I decorated with a banner and chocolate decorations that I made from melted chocolate coating.
And here is my sweetie in her birthday dress. She woke up from her nap after everyone had arrived and was a little overwhelmed. My hubby was trying to coax her out of the bedroom so he could take her picture.
Old And Exhausted
I enjoy parties but I always forget how much work they are when I decide to throw one. I made food over the course of 3 days for about 20 people. Lets just say I am getting old because I am still exhausted and it is 2 days later. My son’s birthday is in two weeks and I told him we are not having a party as I need a few months to recover. ๐
New Plants
Since I am not sharing a craft related project today I thought I would share some of my plants. I love that the green brings a bit of spring to my house year round.ย I bought this bar cart recently from Goodwill (brand new from Target).ย I visit Goodwill every week to check out what is new and I spotted this cart one week when I was low on cash. I kept thinking about it and told myself if it was there the next week I would buy it. That thought process went on for a few weeks and surprisingly 4 weeks later the cart was still there. So I broke down and bought it for a whopping $15.
Some of the plants I revived from Walmart and some I bought last summer at our local greenhouse.
As you can see I have my mug of tea hiding in the background so I can participate with Elizabeth for Tea Day.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Your cake is beautiful, I agree parties can be exhausting
I enjoyed seeing all of your plants
Happy T Day Kathy
That is one very tall cake and it looks GREAT! Parties are so exhausting. It takes me weeks to recover.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love my bottle tree too. It was one of the first garden projects I did when we moved here.
Happy T Day!
Carol
Your cake looks fantastic, and our little Sweetie looks wonderful. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
what a cake – i wonder how you cut it… just taking layers from the top to the bottom?:)
your Little one IS a sweetie!!
have a nice week!
A wonderful cake, I bet it was yummy and little Tessa looks a real sweety in her beautiful party dress!! Love your succulents too, and $15 sounds a bargan to me,
My kids are all in their 40’s now, so my party days are over, but oh how I remember the hard work they involved. Now I can just enjoy my grandchildren’s parties, where all I have to do is help out a bit, much better :). Happy T’day!
The cake looks delicious and looks filled with yummy frosting and fruit. Your daughter looks so sweet.
Your plants all look so healthy and you seem to have got a real bargain cart, it would have been a lot more expensive here in the UK..
Happy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx
Thatโs amazing Kate!!
Your little Tessa is cute. I hope she came round and actually enjoyed her party. The cake is amazing! I suppose you had to take it apart to cut it.
That tea trolley was a good buy. It was there waiting for you to buy it. The plants look really good on it.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

Wow, that cake is amazing! I bet the party was a great success and your daughter looks so adorable in the beautiful birthday dress that you made her ๐. I love your new plants too! Sending you Happy T Day wishes! J ๐
The cake looks fabulous and your Tessa is darling. Hope she enjoyed the celebration. I don’t do big parties anymore- for the reasons you mentioned:) Your cart looks great with all the succulents on it. You were meant to have that cart! Happy T day!
Amazing cake, it must have been delicious. Uur little one look so sweet in her lovely dress. And I love your plants!
I love reviving plants Kate! You reminded me of me! I’am not a party thrower but i can commiserate with how tired you are just from putting on the occassional Thanksgiving dinner.! That cake is so extraordinary i would have thought it was for a grown up and not a little girl.. My little girl was more of a ‘My Little Pony ‘ cake girl… but that was 25 years ago…lol Happy T day Kate! Hugs! deb
Your cake is simple amazing – and your sweet girl looks so pretty in her fabulous dress and your plants are just wonderful – and what a bargain this tray was – great- well done to buy it!
Relax now… this was much work —
Happy T-Day Kate!

That cake is a tower! The birthday girl is adorable ๐ I’m not a fan of crowds (and 20 sounds like a crowd to me), so my parties are tiny and easy ๐ I’m glad to see your plants. It won’t be long until I’ll be putting them back outside. Happy T Tuesday
Oh my goodness…how did you even cut that cake?! it’s pretty and amazing! Nice to see your plants too. Happy T Day!
Amazing cake for an adorable little girl! Wow! I could have never managed a party for 20 people! I would need a couple of months to recooperate! Maybe next year a party for your son, and not your daughter. My daughter had three, and one got at a party each year, not every year! Oh, and I would have bought the cards, too! A bargain! Happy T- Day!
Wow Kate-what a cake. I wonder how you cut it it is so tall. But I bet everyone loved it. And what will you do for your son on his birthday? That cake and party sound like they will be hard to equal. Hope your had a restful T day. Hugs-Erika
I’m very impressed by the cake! – and a happy birthday to your wee girl, she looks totally adorable in her little party dress, and I hope she got over the overwhelm-ment, and enjoyed her party ๐ I didn’t realise your kids are so young, so I’m even more impressed that you manage to do anything creative at all! – your journal layouts are, as always, amazing, you can get lost in all the layers and texture and detail. And yes, I’m a hoarder too – got boxes full of cereal boxes, yogurt tubs etc etc – as the old saying goes, whoever dies with the biggest hoard, wins! Hope you are keeping safe and warm during this cold spell, take care ๐
WOW! That IS a CAKE!!! Your little one looks so sweet! I used to love having parties for my three boys but was always pleased when everyone left!! Your plants looks great on your bargain cart! Belated Happy T day! Chrisx
I am back from Missouri, where I spent two very sleepless days and nights. After returning, I crashed. Finally awake and drinking my first coffee of the day, I am thrilled to see you shared your T Tuesday Tessa birthday experience. She is such an angel and I loved seeing that TALL cake.
I love your tea cart with the succulents on it. I have one I keep outside. I lost all my plants one year when I put them out too soon in April and we had a sudden freeze. I was sick about it, but have refused to replace them. Now I grow herbs and bring them in in the winter for a bit of greenery.
Thank you for your contribution to T Tuesday this week. What a great way to share your mug of tea with us and there is green both inside and out this week. Looks like the snow has finally left your area.
The cake is amazing, Kate! It looks almost as tall as Tessa herself.
The Goodwill bargain cart is perfect for your succulents. Your plants are lovely. A friend gave me an abundancia succulent for Christmas. I’m ashamed to say that it’s not thriving. I just don’t have a green thumb ;-(
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
