Celebration: Mixed Media Mail Art

As we approach our celebration of Christmas, preparations are getting down to the wire. I am finishing up last minute gifts, getting ready to shop for Christmas dinner and cleaning out my house. With several garbage bags of stuff sitting at my door, I am wondering if I should donate or just trash them. Sometimes, it is more trouble to get them over to the thrift store than to dump them in my trash can. So, amidst stumbling over trash bags and overestimating the amount of time it takes to make gifts, I am looking forward to a week of relaxation and celebration with my immediate and extended family.

Creating the Mail Art

I used a postcard for the base and covered it in book paper. Using black gesso I stenciled the

I layered stamped tissue paper, patterned paper, fabric scraps and a stamped tea bag.

I embellished with a Tim Holtz paper doll and word die.

Tea Day

I am joining the ladies for at T-day over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard. For my drink related item I am sharing the tea bag that I used in my post card art. Due to life’s craziness, I don’t have a pretty photo of tea to share today.

I am keeping it short today. Happy Tea day,

  • This is an incredible postcard, Kate. I love how you painted and stamped the tea bag tag, too. It’s that attention to detail that sets your lovely art apart. I personally think your tea bag is a perfect entry for T this Tuesday. Unique use of it, and perfect for this busy season, too. If I don’t see you next Tuesday, have a fabulous Christmas.

  • Oh Kate I know how you feel with the hilariously busy timetable of Christmas preparations and I’m not hosting the family very much this year! I love your beautifully layered mail art, the wonderful neutral tones and textures are delightful and like you I love the paper dolls to create a focal point. Good luck with the decluttering and enjoy the last week before the big day. Huge hugs xxx

  • Happy T day Kate and Merry Christmas to you. Love today’s art. I am in the midst of last minute preparations too. Such a busy time of year.. Hugs-Erika

  • Wow what an incredible postcard. All those unique details make your artwork so special! If we don’t meet until x-mas, have a fabulous celebration with family and friends. Happy T-Day Kate! Hugs, Susi

  • A gorgeous layered project Kate. As we get closer to the Special Day we always seem to have loads still to do.
I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas.
    Happy T day wishes.

  • i hope you have a magickal Christmas Kate! What a lovely MailArt PostCard. You know i love to make those too.. Although mine never have that much depth and texture… It would never make it through the mail for me..

  • We downsized our Christmas tree this year. So I sorted through 50 years of collected ornaments. Happily I didn’t have your quandary of what to do with the excess. My young (adopted) Mexican sister was given a large tree by her parents and she had very few ornaments to fill it. My 3 1/2 year old nephew had a ball putting them on the tree. He liked the tropical fish ones so much that he kept those as toys (grin).

As always, I love the layering on your postcard art. I sure wish I could take a class from you. But I’m getting the next best thing on your blog.

Happy T-day and Merry Christmas! Eileen xoxo
