Do You Folk Dance? :Mixed Media ATC

Couch Talk

Our week has been full, mostly taken up with thoughts of school. Can I say this was a very stressful decision? Our school district has been doing a dance all summer. It is a month before school starts and still no plan. To be fair, it wasn’t their fault as the Health department and governor keep changing their tune. We can’t risk them shutting the schools down again and my kids going without instruction for months. With so much uncertainty going on, we have decided to do charter school this year. That means we will all have a different year.

I am used to having my days free to do as I wish and instead I will need to be available to the little people schooling at the dining room table. They are a bit disappointed that they won’t be around their friends but realistically they won’t be doing any socializing with the the social distancing and masks rules that our state has imposed. We are all a little nervous but I am positive that we made the best choice with all the craziness going on. Who knows, maybe they will like it and want to continue next year. But I am getting ahead of myself. One. Day. At. A. Time.

ATC

Since I was making ATC’s for the challenge, I made a few extra for fun. This one is quite simple with a tissue paper background, embossed stamp and then a layered tea bag, book paper, PaperArtsy stamp and a TH image.

Tea Day

I am joining the T ladies over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard’s. My drink of choice is tea. This 1 lb bag of tea is in the mail on its way to me. It was supposed to arrive today but unfortunately it is late. It sounds delicious and I am excited to taste it. Hopefully next week I can update you on the taste.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • I am glad our governor is insisting that the schools will be open with guidelines-they go back to school mid august/ I think that is a smart move for the charter schools so you can plan and know what is happening.
    Happy T Kathy

  • Hubby and I keep saying how thankful we are that in this year of the pandemic we don’t have young school age children to worry about. We are so sorry for those like you- and yes, it’s especially difficult when the regulations are changing constantly!! One day at a time is right.
Fabulous mixed media ATC!! Looking forward to what you think of your new tea. Happy T day!

  • Sounds like you will have a busy time ahead with schooling the kids, hope it goes well. Your ATC is fabulous. Have a good week, stay safe, happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  • I have this theory about my internet. It knows exactly when it’s Monday at 4 pm, so it immediately goes offline. ATT said they’d send someone Tuesday morning between 8 and noon. Looks like they did, since I’m now online.

I worry about the children AND the teachers, staff, and custodians at the schools in my city if they decide to open. They are still making plans and are requiring all children must bring hand sanitizer, masks, and wet wipes to school should they decide to open, Since I consider myself an educator, I would have no trouble teaching my children at home. However, not many people have masters’ degrees, much less Ph,D’s, so I can understand the concern, especially the mothers who MUST leave home to work in their respective vocations, like medical professionals, grocery clerks, garbage collectors, truck drivers, etc.

That’s an adorable ATC and I believe great minds think alike because I am planning a journal spread with that same young lady soon, too. Thanks for sharing your ATC on the spread and your tea choice with us for T this Tuesday. Sounds like you will get a BIG package in the mail soon.

  • It’s so difficult to know what to do for the best and although it may be a bit daunting I’m sure that you will do a fabulous job schooling your children 😁. Your artwork is beautiful, the pops of colours look amazing and provide the perfect backdrop for your adorable paper doll. Happy 7th Anniversary and T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

  • Good for you for making a decision that is best for your family.. Lovely ATC brought back a memory from school when one of the nuns taught the girls a Greek folk dance. Your tea sums up one day at a time. Take care and Happy TDay

  • I take it the charter school is not sending the kids in. I do agree that it is hard to plan as things as still so up in the air. And who knows what will happen. It’s too bad your school districts didn’t really move forward last spring. ButI think it will be fun to be your kids teacher. Hope it goes well Kate. I love the ATC and since I am late getting around, I hope you had a fabulous T day too. Hugs-Erika

  • school districts across the country are having a terrible challenge to decide how to go forward with safe education. It’s sad that the teachers, the children, the parents, and the other school employees are bearing the burden that lawmakers didn’t accept — how to have a safe society. The death toll is becoming unbearable.

    be well… mae at maefood.blogspot.com

  • I think I would be doing the same as you and home schooling – glad nothing like this happened when mine were young. Yes, they will miss seeing friends but may be that can happen before things are safe in schools! I am sure you will do a good job, I guess that there are guidelines to follow. I love your ATC, the colours are fabulous but love all the bits and pieces that you used! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

  • Having kids go back to school is a tough one, however, each family needs to make that decision. Yes it is a dance but it doesn’t seem to be a fun one. Your art is beautiful. Enjoy your day.

  • The whole Fall school situation is stressful in many states. I think you made the right decision. Connecticut is saying parents can decide whether it’s in school or online, but then they’re also talking about in school is in groups on certain days, so the whole thing seems disorganized, with no consideration for parents who have to go to work all 5 days of the work week, and can’t take time off from work each week to be home with their young children on non-in-school days. Your artwork is lovely. I especially like your dancing girl. Tea is always a great drink to have. Happy belated T-Day!

  • Hi Kate,

I’ve been out mowing my lawn all day today and after I finished and showered, I checked my mail. I got this thick package from you and wanted you to know I’ll open it after I photograph it. You certainly didn’t need to do this, but I’m appreciative none-the-less. I’ll share it and the contents for T this next Tuesday.
