Do You Swap Mail Art? : Mixed Media Mail Art

Couch Talk

I wanted to share this before but due to life I am only now getting around to sharing my swap with Dianne. Her beautiful postcard arrived in this envelope decorated with this amazing illustration.

I love that Dianne created all the illustrations on this postcard and that she included something that I love, Egypt.

Just look at all those illustrations that she drew by hand.

Thanks, Dianne!

Baking

This week was my son’s birthday party. He loves bunnies so of course he asked for a cake with a bunny. Well, a bunny butt.

I am always decorating the cake when guests arrive. No matter how much time I try to leave myself, I never get it complete in time. I used a new meringue recipe for the icing and it did not color well at all so I decided not to cover the sides of the cake and left it naked instead.

Can I just say that those bunny feet took a very long time to make.

Creating the Mail Art

The background is tea bags that have been stained and stenciled with StencilGirl. I layered another tea bag, paper scraps, sari fabric, and stenciled chipboard.

My favorite part of the postcard was the embossed tea tags.

Tea Day

It’s tea day and I am joining the T ladies over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is a tea that I haven’t tasted but is on my Amazon list so I am hoping to taste it soon. It is a Yan Hou Tang 10 Years Aged Organic Taiwan Ginseng Oolong Osmanthus Black Tea Loose Leaf Deep fermented. If and when I get it, I will let you know how it tastes.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • You got an amazing postcard from Dianne. I absolutely LOVE her work and she draws amazing beauties. I’m delighted she made this for you, because it shows how talented she is. You two made a good team because you are incredibly talented, too with your incredible layers of beauty.

Your bunny cake is amazing. I’ve never been able to decorate cakes because of my lack of pinch grip. You did a great job.

I love your mixed media art today. The tea bags are your forte, I believe. The tags are incredible, and the layer after layer of beauty makes this a true work of art.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful bunny cake, your art from Dianne, and your incredible teabag and tea tag art with us for T this Tuesday. It’s awesome.

  • Hi Kate, the bunny cake is adorable, you did very well. Your postcard is wonderful too, as is the one you got from Dianne. I don’t do mail-art swaps anymore, the shipping has got much too expensive. Have a fun week, take care, hugs, Valerie

  • Your artwork looks fantastic. And the cake looks great, even if the bunny feet took a long time to make. I’m sure your son loved it. I like the Egyptian art Dianne sent you. Happy T-Day!

  • Fantastic mail art Kate and your swap look really interesting as was your own art projects.
The Birthday cake bunny looked adorable, I’m sure it would taste delicious, did anyone ask for a foot to go with a piece of cake, they looked cute.
Happy T day wishes Kate, stay safe.

  • Wonderful postcard art. Her illustrations are beautiful.

What a great birthday cake! I can imagine it took a long time to make!!

You’re the queen of layering, Kate. Your postcard is gorgeous. I esppecially like the blak with red circle on top of the red sari fabric.

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  • What an adorable bunny, diving into the cake! Your children will have loved it. Sometimes it’s better to leave the cake un-iced than making a mess of it. It looks lovely.
Oh your postcard is beautiful! I just looove that gold embossing. So pretty. Well done you.
Deb certainly is very talented. She has sent you some gorgeous art and I love the hand decorated envelope. So special!
That tea sounds very interesting. You are becoming quite a tea-gourmet!
Wishing you a very happy T-Day,
Hugs (These ones are allowed, but oh I so crave real hugs),

  • I participate in Elizabeth’s ATC swaps, but I’m not an artist and feel a bit sorry for the person I send to *sigh* but I do try 🙂 The mail art in your post shows what real artists can do. Happy T Tuesday!

  • What a fun bunny cake! You decorated it so beautifully 😀. Wow, your swap and artwork are both gorgeous too! I love your teabag design with the vibrant turquoise and gold – stunning! Sending you Happy T Day wishes and wishing you well! Hugs, Jo x

  • That is such a cute cake. What kind of meringue did you use? My favorite is Swiss Meringue buttercream frosting. Swoon. And that was a nice image from Dianne. Sounds like you had a good week. Hope your T day was great and this week goes well also. Hugs-Erika

  • Beautiful postcard. Your bunny butt cake is so adorable. And naked cakes are very much in fashion. Take care and Happy T Day

  • Wow! Love that post card you got from Dianne! I know how thrilled you must be because I am lucky enough to have some of Dianne’s art myself on my favourite topic, ‘Gardens’, from when we were part of a collaborative project! Your Bunny cake made me laugh and I can imagine the time it took as I used to decorate all of my boys cakes (3 a year!) Well thought out!!
Your mail art is absolutely wonderful! Love those vibrant colours.
If the tea lives up to the very long name it should be right up your street!!!
    Belated T Day Wishes, Chrisx
