Exercise is Not For the Faint of Heart : Mixed Media Layout

Healthy Heart

I have been thinking a lot about healthy eating and lifestyles as summer approaches. Around Christmas my exercise routine was put on hold and somehow I forgot to incorporate it back into my routine. I didn’t realize how important it was until I was out of breath the other day after ascending our stairs.  Sadly, we have a total of 12 steps. Exercise has always been one of my least favorite activities. I much prefer to spend my time reading a book or crafting but those are sedentary activities despite the amount of enjoyment I get from them. Unfortunately, my age doesn’t lend a lot to my energy level so I need to do what I can to help it along. Since having children, the strength is slowly being sucked out of me. Parenting is not for the faint of heart.

Thankfully the sunshine has made an reappearance.  I am excited about warm mornings frolicking in the yard with my daughter and digging through the dirt of my garden. I am so thankful that we live in a place that celebrates all four seasons. Each one has its own perks and I look forward to experiencing each one throughout the year. I am ready for those pretty blooms,  trees full of foliage and sunshine to warm me while I exercise.

What’s your favorite way to keep in shape during the winter?

Creating the Layout

I made this layout for my daughter’s art journal. The background has been sprayed with Lindy’s color mist and stenciled with the Lily Wallpaper Motif and PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints ( Mustard Pickle).

I used the new Sara Naumann PaperArtsy stamps, thread, die cuts, fabric and a canvas tag to embellish.

Tea Day

I am joining Elizabeth and Bleubeard along with the T Ladies. Today’s tea is Tiesta Tea WHITE PINEAPPLE WONDER .  It has pieces of pineapple, carrots, apple, marigold and white tea. This has to be my second favorite tea as of late. I have been drinking it daily because I ran out of my Tiesta Tea Fruity Pebbles.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • I have always had a difficult time sticking with some form of exercise so I totally understand-I am hope to get back into walking
I love your journal page-and your teas always looks so dellicious
    Happy T Hugs Kathy

  • I love the bright sunny look of your journal spread Kate. Like you, I am pretty lax about exercise in the winter (my body doesn’t allow me to walk in the cold weather, and I do not want to have to go to a gym in the cold months either) but once a decent temperature sets in I am all about walking! Happy T day!

  • Your journal spread in your daughter’s journal is wonderful. I love the soft colors and her adorable and smiling face. This is a glorious spread and the layers are amazing.

I have 24 steps between my office and the basement, so I know what you mean by exercise. I use the basement bath because I like it better. Every day I start with my shower, then head to my office. That is plenty of exercise (grin). It’s 10 steps from the office to the kitchen and main part of the house, so I DO get some exercise each day.

LOVE the look and sound of that tea. I’ve never had tea with pineapple in it before. I’m having trouble keeping my internet going tonight, so sorry if I am brief. Thanks for making this a very special T this Tuesday.

  • What fabulous layering and bright Spring colours and you have incorporated everything so beautifully with that gorgeous photo of your daughter. Yep it’s 6am here and I’m lying here thinking it’s Pilates today and I’m willing myself to get up and dressed for some exercise, winter is for hibernation lol xxx

  • Lovely journal page! I live in a house with no elevator, so have to run up and down more than 50 steps several times a day. I don’t have a car, so walk nearly everywhere. It’s a cheap way of keeping fit! Happy T Day, Valerie

  • great pages with the photo of your little one, so cute! after the ice melting (first slippery, then slush) and then a very stormy week now (you see, i do not run short on excuses;)) i hope to come back to walking soon. one hour every other day, that´s my aim.
    happy t-day!

  • Such a beautiful layout and I am sure your daughter will really love them all when she gets older.

I walk every day winter or summer and have recently found a collection of old dance tunes I put together over 30 years ago. If I play them on one of today’s devices they sound different to the old days but they still make me get up and dance.

    Have a great T Day

    Love Chrissie xx

  • Happy T day Kate. I love the sunny and happy spread you made. That cutie must be your daughter. With 3 kids I am surprised you have time to do as much as you do, never mind exercise. But it is important. I am waiting for ll the ice under our snow to melt so I can get out walking more regularly again. Winter is tough, and this year has been the worst I think. Hugs-Erika

  • Happy T Day Kate. I do love your journal pages, they are so bright and cheerful. Your tea sounds good enough to eat, LOL

  • I feel about exercise the way you do, but I have to do it. Try to do it in the morning for four days a week. On the other days I have tot get up early to go to work, no time for it then. There’s a TV prgram that does exercises you can join. Not too heavy, but it exercises all the important muscles. Also a little cardio.

Love your beautiful lay-out, the yellow stencilling gives me a springlike feeling! Your daughter is a gorgeous little eyecather! I have started an art journal too, love it. Wonder why it took so long, since I do love working with mixed media.

  • Don’t hate me, Kate, but I love to exercise. I do calisthenics and yoga every day first thing in the morning. It wakes up my body, works out the creaks and helps build bone density, which is an issue for me.

What a delightful photo of your daughter and a beautiful spread.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  • Lovely layout for your daughter’s journal! My favourite way of exercising throughout all the seasons is walking my dog. He gets me out of the house even on days in the middle of winter when I would rather stay inside in front of a warm fire. Your tea mix sounds yummy!

  • What a glorious page spread. I can feel the sunshine glow of fresh energy as spring approaches, and I love the layering of the elements in the focal areas – and what an adorable photo too.

It is the right time of year for turning attention towards healthy eating and activity… this is when the energy starts to come back for that kind of thing. I’m not surprised New Years resolutions don’t stick. January is a terrible time to try to change habits, at a point when we all just want to snuggle up cosy and safe.

  • Beautiful pages! The yellow stencilling is joyous and that’s a sweet photo of your daughter 😁. I’m not sure if I have ever had white tea and the pineapple sounds yummy! Happy Tea Day! J 😊 x

  • It is a gorgeous journal spread and a sweet photo of your daughter,
Exercise doesn’t come high on my agenda these days, i think its the cold of winter that makes me want to stay home at this time of year.
Happy T day wishes Kate, your tea choice sounds lovely.
    Yvonne xx

  • I love this layout- loving the yellow especially – a great Spring colour! Winter isn’t a good time for exercise but we do try to get to the gym once a week and also take walks – sometimes a short walk around the village centre is all we manage on a cold wet day! Of course there are some days that we convince ourselves that it would be foolish to venture out at all!!! Happy T Day! Chrisx

  • Well, I must admit that exercise and I do not go together. I really do not enjoy it and have never got into a routine. I do love to dance though and so, every once in a while (certainly not on a regular basis) you may find me bouncing around the house to a piece of really loud music. LOL! Love your journal spread Kate. So colourful and gorgeous with that sweet photo of your darling daughter. Have a fabulous rest of the week! hugs xx

  • What a gorgeous spread for your daughter’s journal. I love the yellow., just what we need this time of year.
I go to the gym 3x a week. In fact I am ready to go now, but thought I’d quickly do some comments. I go at 9 in the morning so to get it out of the way. We are a group of about 20 ladies. There is a teacher and he does 5 min of warm up/stretching, then 25 min of aerobic exercising. Then we go upstairs and do 25 min on all the machines. We do a minute and a half on each machine. When the teacher shouts:’Change’, we all move on to the next machine. To finish we do another 5 min stretching. So that’s what I do for work out. We are all older ladies, but we have a lot of fun and work hard.
By the way, my house is over 4 floors so we have 56 steps from top to bottom. My freezer is downstairs and also my washing machine. In winter we live upstairs so you can imagine I go up and down several times. In winter we live upstairs (warmer) and that is on village height, but the summers are spent downstairs where it is cool, but it is quite a trek into the village from down there. I don’t drive, so I have to walk everywhere. That keeps me fit too.
    Happy (belated) T-Day,
    Lisca

  • Your cheerful pages are simply amazing! Your lovely girl is just so cute! When spring comes we wil all do more walking and being outside – don’t worry! Happy T-Day dear Kate and have a great week my talented blogfriend!
    Big hugs , Susi

  • Such a happy page and a cute lil’ punkin’. Exercise is a 4 letter word. I bought a Cubii which is an elliptical machine that goes under your desk. You sit and pedal. I have this at my computer station so while I have my cup of tea in the morning and reading blogs, doing banking, answering email, I pedal. I like it because I don’t have to schedule something or have time taken away from my day.

  • What a sweet art journal spread, Kate, with that cutie pie at the center of your lovely artwork! Love that bold string of yellow, which just makes me happy! Oh, and those delicious layers; I always love how you incorporate fabric scraps and strings in your artwork.

Everything here is yellow, but it is pollen yellow, not pretty and sunshine-y at all. We don’t get the 4 seasons here; well, yes we do, but there is a day of each within a week, and then we start all over. As for exercise, I truly believe it’s the best thing we can do for ourselves to stave off the aging process, along with a healthy diet and faith in God. I used to be a runner, before that weight-lifting and in-line skating. Now as I age, I wished I had included tennis, which you can stay fit with throughout your lifetime. I still do sneak in an occasional run, but it’s much shorter than it used to be, because Mother Nature seems to call when I’m a mile out. 🙂
