Faces and White Bread: A Couch Adventure
Couch Talk
I got another batch of Dalia’s from my garden this weekend! My favorite are the red ones in the middle and I used basil as a filler. I never thought to use basil before but It was the only thing green still alive in my yard. Last week when I used it, I was surprised to find that it flowered while in the vase. I think I will be planting several varieties next year to use for this purpose as well as for cooking/drying. There is something very satisfying about going outside and cutting a bouquet for my kitchen counter.
Not only was I surprised with more flowers but I more strawberries! That is unusual for this time of year.
Master Bathroom Update
Sadly, I don’t have many updates in this department. We finished painting the ceiling this weekend but we still have no further progress due to more blades biting the dust while cutting the shower tile. According to the contractor, we should have more people invading my house on Wednesday this week. That gives me hope that I will have something to share next week.
Just one wall left in the shower, but it is taking forever to complete.
Baking
Today, I made a few loaves of Amish white sandwich bread. Delicious!
Sketching
I still haven’t had any time to make mixed media art so I spent an evening working on another few minutes of my basic facial features class. These are FAR from perfect or even correct proportionally. One face is too long and his mouth is at the wrong angle. I am working on a chair while holding a laptop and sketching at the same time so I can’t always keep the sketchbook straight. I am going to have to be more aware of that as it is affecting my feature placement.
I mentioned before that the online class that I am taking is instructed by Gary Faigin. I have enjoyed his teaching SO much that I purchased one of his books, The Artist’s Complete Guide to Facial Expression
Tea Day
I am joining the T day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. I have found myself drinking a lot of this Rishi Tea Peach Blossom Loose Leaf lately. I bought it on a whim last month to give it a try and I absolutely LOVE it. It doesn’t taste like peach as much as I would have thought based on the description but I still enjoy it. If you happen to be looking for a new tea to try, this one is great! Since it is a white tea, the flavor is mild with hints of peach.

Those dahlias are still gorgeous. And I bet the bouquet smells fabulous with basil leaves. We’ve had some cold temperatures and so I don’t really have much left in my garden to bring inside. Enjoy! And your bread looks yummy. You definitely need to try the spelt bread. It is really good. Nice faces too. I find faces a bit intimidating, although I try, so I think yours are great. Your bouquet is beautiful. I find that when basil is indoors in water it develops an odd, cat-like odor. Very strange thing. Your portrait practice is very impressive!

Your flowers look great. It’s nice to still have blooms as the days get shorter and colder. The strawberries and raspberries look delicious. The master bathroom will be fantastic when it’s done. I like your sketches. Happy T-Day!
Hi Kate! I used Thyme one time as a filler for the same reason and it really gave the kitchen a nice smell. The basil is a great idea and looks beautiful with your flowers. Your berries and bread look delicious! Great sketches , that looks like a good book for practicing. Enjoy your tea and your Halloween ~

The dahlias are gorgeous. I love having herbs in my garden. Rosemary is the one that thrives best in our yard. I love having some sprigs on the windowsill behind my sink.

I wonder why so many blades are breaking on the shower tiles. That’s quite unusual.

I am leaving this generic message for everyone who visited and participated in T Tuesday. I want to thank you for visiting. You may have noticed I was offline off and on for three days. I kept losing electricity. Each time, I was able to visit a few people before the electricity went out again. The third time, I was leaving a comment for Valerie when I heard a huge BOOM. There was a flash of light, the windows and walls shook. It felt like an earthquake to me, but it only lasted a second or two. I believe they have finally fixed the electricity in my neighborhood. I won’t know until I get to explore the internet, but it may have been very local. I know I saw two bucket trucks driving up my street less than an hour after it happened. With no heat, the temperatures both nights dipped into the mid-20s F (low 4s C). Thanks for your participation and thanks for hopefully understanding why I was unable to visit for T this week.
