Fall Baked Fish: Mixed Media Art Journal Layout

Weekend Baking

The cooler temperatures and biting wind are officially here but somehow we skipped the easing in of fall and went right to the bone chilling part of the season. I have mentioned before how much I love fall, mostly due to the absence of mosquitoes and the stifling humidity. To me, fall is all about the smells and tastes.

I really wanted to make an apple pie this week but when I went to the store they only had bruised apples. It was disappointing and made me wish for the old days where we lived near orchards that allowed us to pick our own apples. Fall is the best time to bake and of course the holidays, which are quickly approaching.

Cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings and pies are my favorite during the cooler months. What are your favorite things to bake at this time of year?

Creating the Journal Page

I made this journal layout for PaperArtsy a little while ago. It is one of the layouts in my mermaid journal.

I stamped all the images using PaperArtsy stamps and  colored them using Fresco Finish Paints. I created the mermaid by using the Mixed Media Doll Die Cut by Spellbinders and stamps for the hair, shirt and body.

  • Love all the colours in these pages Kate, your mermaid doll is fabulous with her wild hair and surrounded by those gorgeous fish. I guess we’ll start to have apple crumbles with custard much more as the weather gets colder, that seems to be a real favourite at our family dinners xxx

  • Love your undersea page Kate. It’s got such cool colors. Tomorrow I am going to bake an apple pie. I have some apples I picked a while back and they are getting a bit soft to eat, but perfect for pie. Fall is the best baking time for sure. Hope you get some baking done this weekend and have some fun. Hugs-Erika

  • Your Mermaid pages are simply stunning – a brilliant layout with special flair and charming layering!
I baked apple strudel and Sachertorte today for my stepfather’s birthday … I would love to give you some baskets of apples – we have soo sooo much this autumn. I preserved already20 glasses of apple puree and baked lots of strudel and apple pie.

    Happy weekend Kate!
Big hugs and lots of love from

  • A wonderful page Kate, it blends the super background just perfectly with those awesome stamped images!! I had never noticed that stamp set before, it looks perfect for under sea creations!

Even since retirement I have never become much of a baker, though I love cooking. Christmas cookies is about the only thing I make and the occasional batch of cheese scones. Happy Fall, home you get to enjoy some more of it, before winter really sets in….

  • Your journal pages are full of life, and the colours and textures are wonderful. I love baking, too, and am looking forward to making bread, cakes and pies in the cooler weather. Enjoy your weekend, hugs, Valerie

  • Wow!! Your underwater scene is stunning Kate, so full of life and movement!! I love all the bright colour and the mermaid is fabulous!! Down here in Australia we’re heading into our Summer so my thoughts are turning to buffets and salads! Anything light and easy is the way to go when the days are way too hot to turn the oven on!! Have a wonderful day!! hugs xx
