Ferments In My Shop Front: Daily Art Practice

We had a few more snowfalls since last week so my children spent a lot of time at home with delays and such. I always love to spend some of the time they are home, baking. It is a great way to spend quality time together as well as get something done at the same time. It is also a great time to catch up on my ferments. My two youngest love helping me bottle Kombucha.
Above is a picture of the ferments that I am recently consuming to help increase my gut health. The jar is the first batch of my homemade Kimchi, recipe from Fermented Vegetables: Creative Recipes for Fermenting 64 Vegetables & Herbs in Krauts, Kimchis, Brined Pickles, Chutneys, Relishes & Pastes. It was quite spicy and I loved it! The best part is that it only needed to ferment for 3 days before it was ready to eat. I made another batch tonight and I am using a slightly different method also in this book. I am going to try a longer fermentation as well.
The kombucha is from a batch of blueberry ginger. It’s delicious!
Lastly, is a probiotic yogurt that I purchased from our local Walmart. I found it on clearance and I only eat 1 Tablespoon a day.
I also have a large batch of Sauerkraut fermenting so once that is complete, I will have one more variety of bacteria to make me healthy!
Watercolor Shop Fronts
Lucien Cafe/Bar is a French bistro, located in New York. The photos from their website look tasty while being a bit expensive. Definitely not a place to take the children but would make the perfect date night. The bright yellow exterior made me choose this shopfront to paint. I also enjoyed the shape of the molding at the top of the building. Reference Photo HERE.
Utopia Apparels in Singapore, merges Batik into modern/classic Asian apparel. I browsed their site and their clothing appeals to me with their colorful prints and unique style. I really enjoyed browsing their site although they are a bit pricey. The Batik prints on the outside of this shopfront and the pastel colors were a refreshing change to paint. Reference photo HERE.
Thank you to all of you that answered my questions from last week. I am still doing a lot of research online and I am hoping to open a shop sometime this year. One thing that I wanted to clarify…digital downloads. Many of you mentioned something about printing from your home printer being a problem. In my experience, most people that buy high resolution downloads do not print from their home printer as a lot of home printers cannot support the size and resolution. They send it to another source such as Shutterfly or a local print shop, to print in high resolution and in the size of their choice. It can be a great way to purchase an image that you might want in different sizes. Once you purchase the image, you can use it more than once. Hope that helps in case you were wondering how digital images work.
Tea Day
I am joining the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth. My tea today is Teavana Spiced Apple Cider, Herbal Tea With Cinnamon and Cloves, Caffeine Free . Yum! I have always loved apple cider, spiced with a bit of cinnamon but too much of it irritates my belly. This tea is all the taste, without the irritation! And nothing says coziness during the winter than a spicy, warm drink. Speaking of winter, we are supposed to get more snow tonight. I am expecting a winter wonderland when I awaken.

So nice to hear that when the kiddos are home you can have time with them in the kitchen- as well as in the craft area:) I like kimchi- but not too spicy. Especially loving that sunshiny yellow shop front painting though they both remind me of warmer days…

Sounds like you have a fun project going on Kate . Have you ever made your own yogurt? It is easy to make and yummy. You could use your starter from your probiotic yogurt. Just an idea. I wasn’t here last week, but I just went to your post from last week and see that you’re thinking of opening an Etsy store. I have sold on Etsy for quite a while. I love it, but it is a lot of work. It takes a qhile until a new shop gets noticed and you do neeed to do some marketing. It’s a process, but a very enjoyable one. Good luck with it.

Ingo cooks that, then makes potatoe mash, adds sausages in pieces, like a lasagna, finally tops it with cheese and off it goes to the oven. Ohhh, we haven´t had this for a long time!.
Tho the prints: Here you go to the drug store and get it printed, no worries! Not even that expensive.

Your teas always sound so good! Do you order that online? Because I have never seen that brand of tea in any stores around here. One time, I got some as a gift. Thank you for the information about the digital images. I never thought of that! Happy tea day.
