Find the Magic: Mixed Media Art Journal

I Found Magic

My hubby and I are celebrating our 12th anniversary this month and while we don’t have the magical fairytale of the movies, I am reminded of how far we have come and what we have learned. The #1 thing I have learned is that marriage takes work. So many times I have had to ditch my pride and be the one to ask for forgiveness. My hubby is an engineer so he always has a logical response to every situation, but sometimes logic doesn’t always explain the heart. And I run on heart, otherwise known as emotions.  So, as you can imagine, we don’t always agree. And when that happens, I clam up, seethe and all while playing the quiet game. While I need my space, my hubby decides to nag me about spilling my thoughts until he gets a response. He will not let me go to sleep until we have resolved our differences.

At the time of our disagreement, I don’t appreciate his persistence but over the years I have come to realize what an amazing quality it is. Making peace before going to bed eliminates the formation of grudges. And grudges cause so much damage in marriage. This is just one of the many things I have learned to love about my man. There is no one that I would rather spend my life with. I don’t about you but finding someone that chooses to spend a lifetime with me is a very special person. I would call that magic!

Creating the Journal Layout

I have had a lot of fun using my black gesso on this background. I spread it in the background before stenciling with the Boho Mandala Circle, the Math Man and Collage,Textures, and Patterns, Circles. I used various colors of PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Paints and a white pen. For the words I used the Uplifting Words Stencil.

I used a TH paper doll, a flower die cut, chipboard, stamping and some thread to embellish.

  • I am married to an engineer too. So I know what you mean about the logical side. Which is good and not so good. Depending on the situation. And I lov this art with the black background. You let all that emotion flow here for sure. Hugs erika

  • This is STUNNING. I always love your layers and this one has a definite romantic feel to it. Personally, I think you have already found magic in your life. The moody colors on the left give way to the bright and happy right side. It;s a lovely study in light and dark. As I’ve said before, I LOVE that math man stencil. It is out of this world. Thank you for sharing this magical entry with us at Art Journal Journey..

  • Beautiful journal page, Kate! I really love the drama of the Fresco paints and white pen against the black background. And the story behind what inspired your page is so lovley! You are a smart woman to accept your hubby for what he is, and for realizing the wisdom of resolving differences before saying goodnight. Always enjoy reading your deep thoughts; you are a wise person. Hugs! Oh, and thanks so much for joining in our Get Sentimental challenge at A Vintage Journey!
