Geometric Art and Play : Mixed Media Cards

Lego Mania

I thought I would share a few pictures from The Art of the Brick Exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center.  When we were looking for things to do in Pittsburgh, this exhibit instantly caught our eye. We LOVE Lego’s in our house, as I am sure a lot of people do. But we, unlike a lot of people, incorporate Lego’s into our ADL’s.  Instead of hearing, “Good Morning, Mom” when I wake up, I hear ” Mom, I am working on the lower deck of the H.M.S…” And in our free time after dinner, we all gather on the couch and watch people on Youtube building Lego sets. Not to mention that my boys own 11 very large bins of Legos.

So yes, we get excited about Lego’s. Back to the exhibit. All of the exhibits were build by artist Nathan Sawaya.

Enjoy the pictures.

Aren’t these amazing?

Creating the Cards

The mandala card was made using brown packing tape and index cards. I stenciled the Boho Mandala Stencil with black gesso and colored it using PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Paints. I did a little outlining and doodling using a white Signo pen. I splattered the finished piece with gesso.

The birthday card background is patterned paper that has been stenciled using the Collage Textures and Patterns, Circles. I used Fresco Finish Paints and a Chinese Background stamp in the background. I layered several die cuts as the center focal point. Lastly, I splattered gesso.

Thank you for looking.

Happy Weekend,

Kate

  • Those Lego sculptures are pretty cool. I can see your excitement about Legos as there are so many cool sets to get. I get my daughter one for her birthday or Christmas. Wow. That Harry Potter castle one is pretty amazing. Nice card too. 🙂 Hugs-Erika

I have a bin I saved for him,his Dad got rid of the others “( I truly believe that building with these expands their minds and helps their creativity to soar!
