I Will Be Here: Mixed Media Card

Wedding season is here and last weekend we attended a lovely wedding in a barn. Over the years I have found that I am not much for social events. I find it difficult to enjoy weddings and showers when I would I prefer to stay home with a book and a cup of tea. But looking back, I appreciate all the individuals that took the time to attend these events in my life, so I am making more of an effort for those that are in our lives.

Despite making trips to the bathroom every 15 minutes with my toddler and having her smear a whole packet of butter all over my organza dress, I found myself getting misty-eyed during the ceremony, specifically the vows. As I sat in the audience listening to the couple proclaims their commitment for the first time, I loved looking around and seeing other married couples, all in different stages of their marriage. I have learned that marriage is more than just that beautiful venue and stunning gown. Or the elated feeling that comes from celebrating the start of a new chapter in life.  It is something that grows over time and will be tried. If it is real and unselfish, it will last a lifetime.

My hubby and I just celebrated 12 years of marriage and with life’s busyness and a family, we tend to forget the meaning behind those words that we spoke to each other so many years ago. After the wedding, my hubby took my hand and looked deep into my eyes and said that he was so glad that he married me. It made my heart beat a little faster that he could say that, especially after more than a decade of living with me.

I love this song by Steven Curtis Chapman put together with this scene from the movie “UP.” It depicts marriage very well.

Creating the Card

I started off with patterned paper and stenciled with black gesso and the Collage Textures and Patterns, Circles. I dripped PaperArtsy Infusions in the background.

Several die cuts, thread and book paper were layered underneath a TH paper doll. I doodled and splattered gesso.

Thank you for stopping by,

  • A lovely card, Kate! Like you, I would rather stay home with a cup of tea and a book rather than attend social events, but I am always pleased afterwards that I made the effort.
