I’ll Take a Chai With My Bed Sheets: A Couch Adventure

Couch Talk

We had a relaxing weekend, although I always wish it was longer. Today was a vacation day so we spent a leisurely morning watching an interesting Netflix film called The Willoughbys. Then we did a Star Wars themed workout together. Overall, it was a nice break from the daily routine. Tomorrow, it is back to the daily grind.

Cookbook

Recently, I won The Honeysuckle Cookbook: 100 Healthy, Feel-Good Recipes to Live Deliciously from Goodreads. If you know me, you know how much I love reading cookbooks, so this win was quite exciting. Not only does the book have beautiful pictures, but the recipes greatly interest me. Most of the recipes have some sort of Asian inspiration which would definitely feed my Chinese food cravings. I am looking forward to trying out a few of these recipes. I’ll let you know how they turn out.

 Bed Sheet to Dress

If you remember last week, I mentioned that the bodice I had constructed this past spring for my daughter was too small. I added a panel to the back as an extension and used snaps instead of buttons. It turned out better than I expected and I think it will fit her for more than one season.

The fabric that I used for this dress was a vintage bed sheet that I found at Goodwill. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for a little girls dress.

The pattern I used for the dress was Penelope and Catherine for the sleeves.

And of course every little girl needs a matching purse to go with her dress. I used the Petunia Purse pattern.

And here is my little model.

Sketching

This week, I worked on noses and lips in my sketching class.

I started another mini class and we talked about face mapping.

Quick Practice sketch- 15 minutes

Tea Day

I am joining the T day ladies hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is one that I found at the local grocery store. I love chai so I thought I would give this Twinings, Chai, French Vanilla a try. I am not a huge black tea fan and it is difficult to find chai in green or white tea. I am thinking this would be tasty with some coconut milk and that the milk would help dilute the black tea. Maybe I will try that tomorrow morning as my wake up tea.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Congrats on the book win Kate! I love reading cook books as well, and this one sounds like one I would enjoy too.
Wonderful drawings and sketches-they are coming along quite nicely.
And how adorable is that dress, and your darling daughter in it-love!
Vanilla chai sounds quite nice…hope you like it. Happy T day!

  • Wow, you handsewn dress is really lovely, the purse was really nice. I haven’t sewn clothes in many years.
Congrats on winning the cookbook-I love to read cookbooks too. You have been busy with art too Happy T and new week Kathy

  • That dress came out adorable and nice choice of fabric. Your daughter looks very cute in it. Today was a good day to relax a bit, wasn’t it? Nice sketches too. And nice book win. I read cookbooks also, and I have way too many of them, well maybe not too many . Can you ever have too many? Hope you like the chai tea. And happy T day. Hugs-Erika

  • Yay on the book! And…
Wow, that dress is awesome! As the little person presenting it!
I still practise on an old trousers of Hubby….

Faces I find especially tough to capture, you´re doing pretty well in that – I used to rather leave it blank…
The tea sounds yummy – with that a happy T-day to you.

  • LOVE that dress you sewed for your little cutie. Beautiful sketches, too. I loved the time when my daughter was small and I could always sew beautiful dresses for her! Have a good week, stay safe, hugs, Valerie

  • What a fabulous win. I would love to explore a few of the recipes in that book, too. Congrats.

I have often said that used bed sheets provide the most yardage for the money. You would pay a fortune for the same amount of yardage from a retail store. It’s a beautiful fabric and well done on the extension, too. Your model knows how to ham it up. She’s adorable.

I would LOVE to try that Chai tea. I love anything Twinings. Thanks for sharing your sketches, your daughter’s dress, and your book win with us, along with your tea for T this Tuesday.

  • That little dress is absolutely gorgeous! And using the bedsheets was a genius move! Your sketching is coming along very well- always good to learn new things 🙂

  • Sounds like you had a fun weekend and wow, the dress you made looks amazing! I love the little matching bag too and your daughter looks so pretty in it, hasn’t she grown 😀. I’ve only had Chai a few times, this one sounds delicious! Wishing you a very happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x

  • A Star Wars themed workout? I’m not sure what that means. You all dress in costume and wave light sticks maybe.

Congratulations on your cookbook win! It looks very interesting.

The dress is absolutely beautiful! What a clever alteration at the back. Last week, I wondered how you could add a panel and not have it obvious. Bed sheets from Goodwill, really?! And even a matching purse. You are SO talented. She’s quite the lovely model.

Happy T-day! Stay safe and stay well. Hugs, Eileen

  • Congratulations on winning that book. It certainly looks very interesting and I am looking forward to hear what and when you make something out of it.
Oh that dress is soooo pretty! Your little girl must be so proud to be wearing such a beautiful dress. (Does she like it? I hope so. Little girls sometimes have different tastes to their mother). And the fact that it is a bed sheet really makes me chuckle.
I like seeing your practice sketches. Well done. You’re getting it.
Have you tasted the chai yet? Was it nice?
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  • Your little model looks adorable in her pretty, new dress. The little purse is cute, too. Your faces are wonderful. Each one with a personality. Chai is one of my favorite brews at this time of year. So comforting. Happy T Day

  • I do like chai tea ~ I haven’t tried French vanilla yet, sounds yummy. Your sketching class sounds interesting and your doing terrific. I love your little girl in her new dress, just precious! I wish I had known you a year ago when I finally let go of the vintage pink rose sheets i had to the thrift store. Maybe someone as clever as you turned them into something useful too. A star wars themed workout?! You are a creative mom 🙂 Blessings to you ~

  • Yes, I add milk to that tea. It cuts the spice a little and I love it. Your little girl is adorable, and that dress is wonderful! How smart of you to buy that vintage sheet to use for the dress. You are a talented artist. Thanks for sharing all your creations! 🙂

  • Well done for creating such a beautiful dress! Congratulations on winning the book, many happy hours of cooking ahead I think! Your sketches are wonderful Kate! Sorry I’m late visiting – life happening ! Chrisx
