I’ll Take Shrimp and Pineapple With a Side of Shoes : Mixed Media Art Journal Layout

Yum

This weekend, hubby and I went on our first date in over 6 months. It was so nice to go out to dinner, shop around and have an uninterrupted conversation. I am a lover of good food and sometimes I wonder if I am the only one that loves eating out more than sight seeing on vacation. Since I don’t eat out very often, I really look forward to it when we do. Usually, my craving is for Asian food but hubby talked me into Mexican this time. I was not disappointed. I got a delicious shrimp dish with avocado, onion, tomato, cilantro and rice.

Hubby got steak, chicken, pineapple, peppers, and onions with rice served in a half pineapple. He said it was delicious.

We also went shopping for our summer wardrobe. Recently, we purged our closets so we are missing some essentials for the warm weather. Vacation is approaching quickly so we figured date night would be a good time to get what we needed ( plus we were minus the children). While browsing the mall, now made up mostly empty stores, we stumbled upon a going out of business sale at Payless Shoes. Every pair of shoes in the store was $5. Boys are notoriously hard on shoes and ours are no exception. It seems like we are always replacing sneakers within a few months of purchasing. For $5 a pair we made sure to stock up. We walked out with 6 pairs for $30. Overall, a very successful date night. Yummy food, great deals and meaningful conversation.

What is your idea of the ideal date?

Creating the Journal Layout

In this layout, I used a Japanese wave stamp in the background along with PA Fresco Finish Paints.

To embellish, I used scraps of fabric, washi tape, thread, book paper, gelli print paper and chipboard.

Tea Day

I am joining the T ladies over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard’s with my drink related beverage. I finally feel like part of the group today as I have a meal to share. Usually, I leave T day drooling over all the delicious looking food.

For my beverage, I am sharing one of my new teas that was sent to me by Tiesta Tea. I Gotta Colada is Oolong tea, pineapple, coconut flakes, sunflower petals and dried yogurt pieces. I don’t know if you noticed, but I have a thing for pineapple in my tea. It is not intentional but it certainly agrees with my taste buds. This tea has a strong flavor due to the Oolong but also has hints of sweet (pineapple) and nutty (coconut) flavors. I drink Oolong often by itself but I much prefer this lovely blend. The sweetness is not overpowering like in my fruit teas so I would drink this with a meal or as a morning pick-me-up. It is really delicious and I encourage you to give it a try.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Oh, I am going to start with your tea which sounds so delicious! What a wonderful date day with great food and great bargains too! You really should find a way to have date days more often;) Beautiful journal page. Happy T day!

  • That date night sounds like a fun time. I love Mexican food. Although I must say I have never seen a meal served in a pineapple, but I would love that. And the photo in our art today is just adorable. Hope you have a great T day Kate. Hugs-Erika

  • I like Asian and Mexican food so would’ve been happy with either 🙂 We bought a lot of shoes at Payless through the years and think it’s a shame they’re closing. Your tea does sound and look delicious. Pineapple and Coconut go well together, I think. Happy T Day!

  • Glade you had a great time out. The journal pages are fabulous, as always. I think I would have chosen your hubby’s meal, I am not so fond of shrimps. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  • A date night sounds a lovely way to spend time without the children, but as i read your post they may not have been with you, but you were thinking about them when you bought those bargains in the shoe store.
Your meal out looks delicious, my choice would have been the prawn dish as well, in fact both meals looked very tempting.
It is a beautiful art page as well, the fabric layers looked lovely.
    Happy T day wishes Kate.
    Yvonne xx

  • This was a MOST impressive layout, Kate. As always, I love the layering, and I’m definitely going to have to try gelli printing again, although I didn’t like it the one time I did it. You have created a beautiful entry for your beautiful girl.

I’m really impressed with your meal. It looks wonderful. That is a very unique meal your husband got, because I have never seen anything like it before. VERY different, I actually like your shrimp, avocado and cilantro, which in my opinion is an acquired taste. It was something I finally learned to love and now I grow it in my herb garden.

I think the day of the malls has passed. Too bad, too, but teens grew up and stopped hanging out there. It was good you got great bargains on the boys’ shoes, though. Sounds like a great date night for the two of you.

Your tea look lovely this week, too. Thanks for sharing your journal pages, your food, and your tea with us for T this Tuesday, Kate.

  • Hi Kate, thanks for your earlier. Visit and lovely comments.
Your teas always look and sound delicious but I’ve never enjoyed fruit teas. I love your beautiful artwork and the children are such cuties.
I like Mexican but not too hot, your food looks lovely especially your husbands, something else I’m not keen on is cilantro although when we to San Francisco a lot of food has it on or in so sometimes I have to eat it.
    Have a great week

  • … and she is loved by all:) ♥
well, like you i definitely would prefer going out for eating over shopping!! and your food looks deli!
    happy t-day!

  • Your journal page is so sweet. That Japanese wave stamp is perfect on there. Love that look. I usually am not a Mexican food fan, but that shrimp looks delicious. Never thought of shrimp in a Mexican dish before. What do we do for a date night? Out to eat. But we save up for big trips. In the past , we have loved to travel, cruises and such. But, we are slowing down. Sometimes a day trip and out to eat in another town. Happy T Day, Kate!

  • The journal page is very sweet. What an adorable photograph. Nice to go out for some uninterrupted adult convo . Now that the girlies are all grown up, dates tend to include running errands and out to eat, or going to the movies and out to eat, or just out to eat. I love eating out. No cooking! That’s a win in my book. Hubby’s dinner presentation is impressive. The food looks delicious. I love pineapple and coconut. Not usually into fruit or herbal teas, but you r coconut pineapple tea is tempting. I bet it would be awesome iced. Happy T Day

  • It sounds like you had a wonderful date night! I live Mexican too and your food looks so delicious 😁. I like nothing better than going out for a meal and
shrimp and seafood is always one of my choices. Yorr date night sounds perfect with the bargains that you found too! Your pages are so pretty 😀. Wishing you a very Happy Tea Day! J 😊 x

  • Kate, coming to your blog is like taking a vacation! I love reading your posts, and how exciting to have this special time with your husband! Your food looks delicious, your deals are amazing and your mall description rivals that of ours. Malls are a thing of the past in smaller towns. We went to one in Charlotte while visiting my daughter at collage, and I couldn’t believe how ALIVE it was!

Your journal page is breathtaking from the colors to the yummy texture and design. And oh, that sweet photo! Love!

My husband and I always went on a date night when the kids were small, but sadly no more. Our date is church on Sunday morning and a trip to clean our hoarder house on Sunday afternoon. Ha! Ha! One of my favorite date night rituals was a walk on the beach watching them replenish the beach and searching for shark’s teeth, then watching the sun go down.. What fun!

  • What a lovely lay-out Kate. I love the Japanese background.
Yes, I am one of those people that choose a holiday destination on the basis of how good the food is. I love going out for dinner. My best birthday present is being taken out for a meal. I am adventurous and will always choose from the menu something I don’t know or have never tasted. That has its risks of course but I have seldom been disappointed.
    Happy (Belated) T-Day,
    Lisca

  • Yummy layout and muse today, Kate

No you’re not alone. My hubby and I both enjoy a good meal out on vacation more than sight seeing. We try to strike a balance, but sometimes the sight seeing seems more like an obligation.

Except for the cilantro and avocado, your meal doesn’t sound Mexican at all! Then a sale at Payless? Definitely a great date night. I would have been giddy with delight.

“What is your idea of the ideal date?” Your question made me smile because it reminded me of a favorite movie.

“That’s a tough one. I’d have to say April 25, because it’s not too hot, not too cold,” [Miss Congeniality]

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  • I love pineapple but I am not a steaklover so I would have had the shrimps too! Knowing how children go through shoes you certainly got some bargains there! I love the layers on your gorgeous page! A very belated Happy T day! Chrisx
