Isn't She Beautiful: Mixed Media Junk Journal Layout
Isn’t She Beautiful
Many of you asked to see my little sweetie in her mommy-made dress once I completed it, so here she is!
This dress is called Blithe. It is a high/low dress that I made using a vintage Sari purchased off of Ebay. The sari part of her dress used to be valences hanging in our bedroom. Since we bought new curtains I no longer had need of the others. Obviously, I could not throw them out so why not recycle? The blue cotton underskirt is simple but it pulls out the beautiful turquoise in the Sari pattern. I think I am going to save this for her 2nd birthday!
This second dress is called Nora. I wanted this pattern forever but it was a lot harder than I bargained for. I made a simplified version here. I am hoping to revisit this pattern again soon but I have so many others to try out first. 😉
I love having a little girl to sew for!
Creating The Junk Journal Layout
The base for this journal is a re-purposed Anthropology magazine. Sadly, none of the images are showing because magazine paper is a bear to work with.
So, I used patterned paper as a base layer over top the magazine page. I then layered some paper scraps before adding several layers of Fresco Finish paints. I embossed in yellow with a Japanese wave stamp. PaperArtsy Infusions were then added before layering scraps of stamping and other bits to finish off the page. Everything on these pages was re-used from previous projects.

Such a fabulous journal Kate, beautifully put together with glorious colours! But the one that really stole the show for me today is your little cuty with a gorgeous dress!!!
Fabulous journal spread and your little one looks so wonderful in her gorgeous dress, wow! I used to sew everything for my daughter, too, and know the feeling! Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie

Oh Kate! You are an incredible seamstress and both dresses are darling, but not cuter than her sweet face modeling here! <3 And I absolutely love your journal page. It is out of this world beautiful, cool, and artistic. You are amazing and always inspire me so. Hugs, Autumn

Wow! Your MM Junk Journal page is glorious Kate! I love the colour mix, especially with that gorgeous embossing over the top! It is stunning but the real showstopper today is your sweet little cutie in her mommy-made dress! What a little darling and how clever you are to make those gorgeous little dresses for her. xx
OK, that’s it! I’ve had it. I want to be able to know when you update your blog, and since I don’t use e-mail (mine was hacked), I would like to add your blog to my left sidebar. However, I will only do that with your approval.
I am SO sorry I’m late visiting. You are so talented and those dresses are incredible. I sew paper to paper, but never sew anything I can’t tear or cut on my paper cutter! You are a genius.
You put that Anthropologie magazine to good use. I got a couple of them, and the pages are quite thin. Lovely photos, but no substance. You did a fabulous job covering the pages and this spread is simply out of this world. Once again, the colors are so rich and the background is dazzling. Your art is truly note (and prize winning) worthy.
Hi Elizabeth. I try to post on Tuesdays and Fridays. I don’t know if I would call it a set schedule as I am not always on the ball with posting promptly, but I try. 😉 You are welcome to post my blog in your sidebar.
I like sewing paper to paper as well. Except that it makes my machine dirty. Ugh. It is a pain to get out all the paper dust.
And thank you for your kind words.
