It’s A Cinnamon Kind of Life : A Couch Adventure

Couch Talk

It is really looking like fall in Pennsylvania. We have leaves of all colors and my Dalias have sprung. Aren’t they lovely? I can’t believe that cool temperatures have produced such pretty flowers. I will certainly be planting more next year.

Sadly, my sweet potatoes did not fair as well. We raised the sweet potato bed and added more soil this year. BUT… thanks to the rabbits eating all the leaves off my vines, I didn’t get one single potato. It makes me so mad! Next year, I will be setting up a trail camera and the consequences for eating from my vegetable patch will be elimination. They got off easy this year.

My Bakes

This week I made my weekly batch of cinnamon raisin Sourdough bread. It has beautiful swirls inside, more so than usual but I forgot to take a picture.

The leftover sourdough starter usually goes towards some kind of dessert. This week it was Cinnamon Sourdough Crumb Cake. Do you see the cinnamon theme?

Baking Siblings

Today, was such a busy day and my daughter watched 3 movies (gasp) because I had to spend time doing school with my son until dinnertime. My oldest asked to bake something without my help because his Dad recently made a comment about my son not being able to bake (because he never has). My son took it as a challenge and asked to make oatmeal cream pies. He wanted to include his little sister in the baking since she spent most of the day by herself. They were occupied in the kitchen for over an hour, baking, taste testing the batter and cleaning up. I can’t tell you how happy this made me that he took the time to bake with his little sister. Here is what they made.

Sketching Class

I still have not had time to complete another lesson but I am trying to practice. The first picture is my attempt at face mapping before making the actual sketch.

The sketch

Another sketch that I started but didn’t yet complete (below). Can you guess who she is?

Master Bathroom Update

I almost forgot to post an update on our remodel as the progress has been next to nothing this past week. The beginning of last week the tile man finished the main floor. It looks great! You can really see the hexagons in this picture because it was taken right after he finished grouting. Once the grout dried, it all blends and you can only see the triangles.

If you remember, he had to start tiling the main floor because the saw blades he was using to cut the shower tile broke. He finally got the replacement blades in the mail last week but they were both bent. Ugh! He requested replacement blades but they didn’t arrive until tonight. It has been almost a whole week without any progress. It is frustrating because we have two linen closets, two large mirrors, and 80 inch vanity, a shop vac and other construction equipment stored on our bedroom floor (not including our bedroom furniture). It is like an obstacle course to get to the closet. And you better not have to get out of bed in the middle of the night. No telling what one might trip over.

Tea Day

I am joining the T ladies hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My drink today is The Republic of Tea Orange Ginger Mint Tea. I have been drinking this twice a day as I have been having gut issues as of late. It has a soothing effect and I have felt much better after having a cup.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Good for your son to take up that challenge. His oatmeal cream pies look yummy, as does your sourdough bread and coffee cake. I really enjoy baking with sourdough and think it makes lots of projects tastier and much better. Your floor is cool, as are those faces. Enjoy your tea. I like that flavor. Have a super T dayKate. Hugs-Erika

  • Great bakes, and that is so awesome your two children baking together-that reminds me how I grew up we always baked together-so fun and lasting memories created. • Beautiful flowers indeed! And weee, what a cute pic of your helpers!
Oh, faces are so difficult for me, great job you did! Cool floor. That tea sounds yummy, happy T-day (and stay safe at night, LOL)

  • Your flowers are gorgeous!
I love that your kiddos are taking an interest in some baking and cooking- and doing it together too:) Your cinnamon flavored goodies- I swear I can smell them…yum!
    Happy T day!

  • What a nice post. Your kids are too cute and your son sounds like a good brother not to mention a baker, Wow. Your bakes look great as well. Your sketches are really looking good. Great expressions on both of them. OK, I WANT that floor. Ohhhh wowowowow that is gorgeous. Enjoy your day.

  • Your son did a great job ~ and what a good brother to ask his sister to help too. They look delicious. Your cinnamon raison bread does too. I’m glad you find time to keep sketching as well, we have to make time for our art. Your bathroom renovation is moving slow but it’s still headed in the right direction. I keep forgetting to take pictures of the stages of the kitchen. I’ll post something tomorrow I think. Blessings on your week!

  • Right before I was going to leave you a message, I got up to get coffee. When I did, I must have hit my computer screen because when I got back, my screen was black. I even rebooted and tried the little lights that adjust the screen. I was sick about it, but waited until today when I could see better what was going on. I finally found I had accidentally unplugged one of the cords that hooks the screen to the hard drive box. I am so glad I didn’t need a new computer screen.

Your flowers are amazing. You must have gotten lots of rain.

So glad your son and daughter made those oatmeal cream pies. I bet your husband was surprised. The siblings looked so happy together, too. Great big brother.

Your sketches are lovely and your tile on the bath floor is incredible. Too bad about the construction, but it always takes more time than we plan when doing a renovation or remodel. Been there, done that.

Thanks for sharing your cinnamon filled week and your lovely sounding tea with us for T this Tuesday, Kate.

  • Looks like you’ve been busy with the home schooling and baking! Those cinnamon treats looks delicious and what a gorgeous photo of your son and daughter, they sure look happy and how they’ve both grown. The cookies that made look delicious Orange ginger mint tea is something I would definately try 😀. Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

  • What cuties! I would love some of his oatmeal cream pies. What a sweet time for brother and sister. Your sketching is really coming along well, Kate.
    Happy T Day!

  • The dahlias are so pretty. I didn’t realize they bloomed this late. Mmmm, I can smell the cinnamon from here. Sweet that Big Brother included Little Sister and their oatmeal cream pies look yummy. Even better that they cleaned up the kitchen. Happy T Day

  • Your dahlias are beautiful, Kate. Great bakes. I love cinnamon too – in anything, on anything.

The oatmeal cream pies look wonderful. I guess your son showed Dad! My older sister taught me to make apple strudel from scratch – stretching the dough paper thin over the kitchen table. It’s one of my favorite memories of her. I bet your kids are making special memories too.

Happy T-Day. Stay safe and well. Hugs, Eileen

  • Oh your dahlia’s look gorgeous! As does your bathroom floor! Wow! Those tiles are something else! I love them.
Isn’t it wonderful brother and sister can spend time together baking. I love that photo of them together. Bless’em. The oatmeal cream thingies look delish.
As does your bread. I envy people that make sourdough bread. I have never made it beyond a proper starter.
Your drawing is coming on nicely. I can see that you are enjoying it. Who is the mystery lady? Is it you?
    Sorry for the late comment,
    Have a good week,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  • How great that your son baked with his sister! Looks like a great result! Your bread and dessert look greta too! Looking forward to seeing more of your bathroom! Love those sketches! Sorry to be so late, Chrisx
