It’s All About Faces: Daily Art Practice
Couch Talk
Last week we had a lot going on so I don’t have a lot to share. I did a little bit of baking for Father’s Day but forgot to take pictures. We had appointments and things to do so of course that means less time devoted to art and baking. But we are enjoying a slower daily pace and soaking up the time we get to be together, read and play.
Daily Art Practice
Watercolor
The first set of ladies was based off of photographs on Pinterest. I was not happy with the outcome as I am struggling to layer skin tones without it looking overworked. As you can see, the paper is ruined in places from me trying to scrub paint with my brush. I have been watching a lot of videos and I have been inspired to try a new technique. And I just need a lot more practice and experimentation.
I had some paints mixed on my palette and I decided to use them to do a color study to help with layering.
Drawing
This past week I mostly worked on gesture drawing and perspective. Here are a few sketches of my daughter. She loved posing for me.
One afternoon, I took an Urban Sketching class that taught me a lot. I learned quite a bit in a short period of time and I am eager to go out and give it a try, especially while on vacation. This one I copied from the class instructor.
This one is a 15-20 minute sketch from my deck.
Tea Day
I am joining the Tea Day ladies hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. The tea I am sharing, Organic Positively Tea Company, Green Tangerine, Green Tea, Loose Leaf, 16 Ounce, is one that I am thinking about trying soon. I have tried several different teas from this company and I really enjoyed each one. Green tea with a bit of tangerine sounds delicious!
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Hi Kate, I really enjoying see your art, your teas always sound so delicious too
Happy T and new week
Your drawings look great Kate. Glad in your summer days you still find some time to practice. Your watercolor faces are wonderful. Hope you continue to enjoy the days with the kids not in school. HAve a happy T day and great week. Hugs-Erika
I especially love your loose monochromatic watercolor faces along with the urban sketching. I’ve always admired urban sketches but I know enough to know it’s not something I can do(and I have tried). I’ll stick with making mixed media messes:) Happy T day!
Your watercolors and sketches are great. I’ve been experimenting with watercolor pencils. Mostly just trying the colors and going from a light wash to saturated to see what I get. Keep up the good work.
My favorite was the clown,. That was adorable and so was the little boy’s face. Your Green Tangerine Tea looks good. I followed the link. Maybe it will be reduced for Prime Day. Thanks for sharing your lovely faces and sketches of your daughter, along with your tea for T this Tuesday, dear Kate.
Beautiful art Kate, practice makes perfect! Glad you are keeping up your daily painting. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
Love all your works!
I admit. I´mm having a cool beer – it´s finally HOT!
Happy T-Day.
Yes, some weeks are like that.
But you did get some practice done. I am amazed what you do with watercolors and you seem to learn fast. It’s all down to practice and technique I think.
Fun to see the sketches of your daughter.
Your green tea with tangerine sounds very nice. We are enjoying a mix with green tea (70%) and rose hip, hibiscus, raisins, cranberries, corn flower leaves, almond and vanilla essence. Really nice.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Kate, your pictures all look great to me! I especially love those of your daughter and your deck- so fun! The tea does sound good – let us know if you get it and how it is. Happy T-day!
Kate I love your paintings and sketches, I’m surprised your DD stayed still long enough!
Your teas always sound delicious!
Happy T Day

I love your 15 sketch of your deck, and the posed ones of your daughter. You really do great job Kate. Happy T Day.
I bet you all had fun celebrating Father’s Day with all the baking you did, I always bake for my dad too 😁. Your rose is so beautiful and your painting look amazing too! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x
I love your blue man especially, and all your drawings. The urban sketches are fab and the tea sounds like something I might like. Thanks for your visit, hope you enjoy the custard, it might not be a very American thing maybe, not sure where you would buy it, but it is very tasty. It can also be used to flavour some really nice biscuits (cookies) which are also vegan 🙂 Happy T Day Elle xx
