It’s an Ice Cream Bar Kinda Day: Daily Art Practice

Couch Talk

This week we made it through the first birthday party of the year. My daughter turned 7 and if you recall, she doesn’t like cake. Instead, she requested an ice cream sundae bar for dessert. She chose strawberry, cookies ‘n cream and vanilla ice cream with candy and fruit as toppings, along with caramel, hot fudge and whipped cream. It was a great choice and less stress to not have to make cake!

If you could choose any dessert for your birthday, what would it be?

Sketchbook Practice

I have been trying to complete 1 sketchbook layout per week. This layout was referenced from a photo I found on Pinterest that you can find HERE.

The face looks a little washed out, due to the lighting when I photographed, but overall, it turned out better than expected. When I started it, it was in the ugly phase right up until the end. I guess that was a good lesson in why I shouldn’t give up.

Tea Day

I am joining the tea day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is Simple Loose Leaf Simple Peach Green Tea . I received this tea recently as a gift and I would highly recommend it. It has a hint of peach with the mild flavor of green tea.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • That sounds like perfect birthday treats! Growing up as kids my Mom would always order us a birthday cake at the bakery-it was an old world type bakery everything made from scratch. we got to choose the flavors of the cake. that was always something special as my Mom always made everything from scratch.
    Love your art-Happy T Kathy

  • Happy birthday to your daughter. That’s a fun idea since she doesn’t like cake. It’s hard to believe she is already turning 7. I would pick chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I don’t need to think about that. And your face looks amazing.. Isn’t it interesting how just finishing up or changing a few little things can change a whole page. I added some red dots to a blue background today and voila, it totally changed the page in my eyes. I hope you have a great T day and week ahead. hugs-Erika

  • Beautiful sketch, Kate. I would opt for an ice cream sundae bar for my birthday. 🙂 My husband would rather have ice cream or pie over cake. Happy T Day.

  • Happy belated birthday to your daughter. I hope you all enjoyed the celebration. It is a great idea to have an ice cream sundae for a birthday celebration. My son doesn’t like cakes much too though we buy a birthday cake for him. I will try this idea for his next birthday!
Thanks for sharing and happy T day!

  • Your painting turned out lovely! – My favorite dessert is Tiramisu – I make a killer Tiramisu from a recipe that I brought from Italy back in the 90s. It has been a family favorite ever since.

  • LOL, you really got me thinking. I don´t like sweets, but I once had a yummy licorice ice cream. But that in January? Brrrr….
    Only if I´m in Perth!
Wow on your art (what else ;-)…)
Yes, Tea-time here, too, it´s cold!

  • Happy T-day, Kate.

What a fab idea for a birthday dessert! I would pick homemade from scratch carrot cake or peanut butter fudge cupcakes my sister makes for my birthday dessert. My Sister actually promised to make them next week (not my birthday but it will feel like it).

Your watercolor is fabulous – I would totally mess that one up.

    The tea sounds fab.

Happy T-day and I have missed you – I will catchup on your posts soon as I know there are some fabulous things you have created.

    Hugz

  • An ice cream bar sounds special. It looks delicious. I’ve always had cake and just a scoop of ice cream with it, but you’re broadening my horizons 🙂

My daughter favors peach tea. Happy T Tuesday

  • Happy Belated Birthday to your daughter! She did make a good choice! My fav is chocolate cake with chocolate chips and chocolate frosting! with icecream ofcourse! LOVE your painting! Happy T day! Hugs! deb

  • I love your daughter’s choice of ice cream for her birthday. I can’t believe she is seven. Wasn’t it just yesterday you were potty training her? Your drawing is absolutely incredible. Your tea sounds really lovely, too. I like lose leaf tea and green tea with peaches sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing your drawing, your daughter’s birthday ice cream, and your tea with us for T this Tuesday.

  • Wow Kate, she looks gorgeous!
It makes me feel even colder just thinking about ice cream lol I guess my favourite desserts would be cheesecake or tiramisu but since I don’t eat dairy any more it’s more of a challenge so I tend to not bother. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx

  • Dear Kate,
Happy birthday to your daughter, my daughter’s birthday is next Sunday, it’s her thirtieth… A birthday ice cream is definitely a good idea! I also know some people who are not enthusiastic about cakes. For me it depends, I only like cakes that don’t contain greasy cream but I like a moist dough, often combined with vanilla cream and fruit. Alternatively, I really like trifles.
Your picture turned out fantastically well – you always find such expressive templates! And I agree with you: giving up is not an option! (This is also written on the motivation boards in our gym 🙂 )
Have a wonderful weekend & happy March days!
