It’s Demo With a Side of Peaches: Mixed Media Collage
Couch Talk
I mentioned a few weeks ago that we were expanding our garden. Well, thanks to the beautiful weather that we have had lately, we started the demolition this past weekend. We tore everything out, transplanted the plants into pots, and started clearing the land. My hubby built one new planter so we could estimate where the other planters are going to go. We went from this…
to this.
We will be expanding past that long board on the grass and possibly adding fruit trees where the pots are situated. It’s going to take a while because we will only be working on weekends so hopefully we will have nice weather every weekend from here until Mother’s Day weekend.
Baking to Commemorate Our Loss
Today, marked 6 years since our baby, Faolan, went to heaven. You can read my story and view my grief art journal HERE. Every year we celebrate his memory with a cake and candles. This year I made this Apple Coffee Cake. Since I didn’t have apples I substituted peaches.
Collage
Recently, I have spent time on Instagram as it is the perfect place to get some creative mojo. While cramming for inspiration this afternoon, I came across the collages that Julie Liger-Belair makes. If you have a chance, check out her account. Her collages are so fun. So, with only an hour to create, I thought I would attempt making one, using only scraps on my table. Here’ s what I came up with.
I used some ephemera that I had lying around as well as some stamps and paint from PaperArtsy. The stencil is new from StencilGirl by Jeanne Oliver.
I am not sure what I am going to do with this collage, maybe frame it?
Tea Day
I am joining the Tea day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is a new flavor I purchased last week. Tiesta Tea – Chai Love, Loose Leaf Spiced Chai Black Tea is very yummy and full of a lot of spice. I would like to try it steeped in Coconut milk. I don’t know about you but I can’t get enough of spicy tea. My favorite ingredient is the cardamom pods. As of yet, I haven’t had a tea from Tiesta Tea that I haven’t liked.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Your new garden area is going to be a LOT larger, at least by the looks of it. You are going to have a ton of work ahead of you, but with everyone helping, I suspect it will go quickly once you all get started.
That collage is awesome. I’d LOVE to be on Instagram, but you need a cell phone for sharing art there. I think yours is fabulous. It turned out great. I was really impressed that you used items from your craft table, too. I was SO surprised at how expensive stencils are. That one stencil would take up nearly 1/3 of my yearly craft budget.
Your tea looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing it, your incredible art, and your soon to be new garden with us for T this almost Tuesday.
Beautiful collage art Kate!! I immediately went to my phone and IG cuz I somehow missed you there. So as of now I am following:)
A very heartfelt and touching post of art and love regarding the loss of your beloved Faolan. It’s a beautiful thing to celebrate and remember him each year with a cake.
Your tea sounds really good but I tend to drink those heavier ( to me) flavored teas in the winter months only. Happy T day!
Good that you are not forgetting baby Faolan. Love the collage, very stylish. Your garden will be fantastic when it is done! Happy T Day, Valerie
Wow, your garden is going to be so beautiful! We have fruit trees in our garden and it’s so nice to bake with the fruit 😊. So sorry to hear about your loss, that’s heartbreaking and your cake and candles is such a lovely tribute. Your collage is gorgeous – love it! Take care and wishing you a happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x
Hi Kate, pleased to see your veg plot is progressing, we don’t grow too much in our small plot but it always tastes so much better when it’s home grown.
So sorry to read about your sad loss but how lovely that you still spend time to remember in a special way, your peach coffee cake looks delicious too
Happy T Day

I am sorry for your loss. I have no children but cried my heart out when my SIL suffered this.
Nice idea to have a cake to …
I like your collages and tea, have a happy T-day…
Hi Kate. Your garden looks great to start with so I can image how nice it will look once you get it reset up. Mine never looks so pretty so I am NOT going to show those boxes to my husband because he will stop doing other things and try make my garden look better. (He built me a picket fence because he couldn’t stand looking at my not so straight rows). Smile. And I love your loss journal. I had a miscarriage before I had my daughter and it was hard. Harder when we found out after my daughter we couldn’t have any more children. Thanks for sharing. Now people are willing to talk which is a healthy thing. Your art today is beautiful, the collage and the link to your journal. Hope you have a wonderful T day and get some garden work done this weekend. Hugs-Erika
I liked the old garden arrangement 🙂 I look forward to seeing how the new plan looks. Sometimes it’s just time for a change 🙂
Happy T Tuesday!
Have fun with the new garden. I hope the weather is nice on the weekends so you’ll be able to get things done. Poignant post and a lovely tribute to you son. Such a beautiful and unusual name. May his memory be a blessing. Happy t Day
I looked at your grief journal, Kate. How precious is your memory and the journaling. I especially liked that you included scripture. I am so sorry for your loss. How wonderful that you can take time each year to remember. I , too like spice tea, Chai, and it is good with milk. Sorry to be so late. Have a great week-end.
