It’s That Time for Improvement : Seth Apter Inspired Mini Album

Home

One of the best parts of being a home owner is shaping a house to your tastes. We have been in our house for almost 4 years but our pace at home improvement has been at a crawl due to some expensive improvements within the first year. In the first 6 months of moving in we had to replace our hot water heater, Geothermal unit and our roof.  Of course two of these were the most expensive improvements we could possibly have and to have both at once certainly made us take a look at how we managed money. Since then we have changed our habits and we now save for improvement projects in full before starting.

This past summer we had the front deck rebuilt due to safety issues and we painted the deck and the front door a light gray. Never underestimate a new paint job. It pulled our house out of the ’90’s and gave it an updated look.  Last week, we put new garage doors on our house and we love the way it has brought the front together. We still need to paint trim, work on some landscaping, and add outside decor but overall it is coming together. Here is a before and after photo. The house color is the same, it just looks different due to lighting.

Do you enjoy home improvements?

Creating the Layouts

Here are a few more pages to my Seth Apter Art Journal. My book paper has been stained with Distress Stain before adding stamped tissue paper over top. I used Asian character washi tape along with a PA stamps by Seth Apter and Lynne Perrella. I also used a little bit of Green Patina paint to add color.

Tea Day

I am joining the T ladies and Elizabeth and Bleubeard for Tea Day. My beverage today is  WHITE PINEAPPLE WONDER by TIESTA TEA in my Tervis Mermaid Tail Stainless Steel Tumbler.  In the background is my spider plant that I purchased this summer at Aldi. I love when they have plants. Usually, I buy them when they are half dead at a huge discount. But not always. This one has been a learning curve for me as I almost killed it twice. If you have any thriving spider plants I would love some good tips.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Love the journal, so pretty. So many lovely details. Home improvement is always a costly project. I used to be able to do everything myself, but not so much these days. Your house looks great. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  • That’s quite a makeover. Yes, paint can do wonders to a house. I know that for a fact. I’ve put TWO new roofs on my house, one I had to pay for myself, and the other was partly covered by insurance.. I’ve put in a new hot water heater, too. Now my fridge is on the fritz, too. Believe me, I also know remodeling can be fun, or frustrating.

LOVE the journal pages you shared today. They are fabulous. Also enjoyed seeing your white pineapple tea and your love Mermaid container, too. Thanks for sharing these with us for T this Tuesday, dear Kate.

  • Oh I adore those journal pages Kate. They are amazing. And nice to see your house. It looks good to me. A house is just a money pit I think, but if you love it and enjoy it it is worth the money. I love my house but it needs constant TLC. One thing and then another. I need to redo the kitchen and a bathroom in mine. I am hoping to do the bathroom this summer, maybe we can redo it ourselves and save cash for the kitchen. Happy T day.

  • love your “seth apter style” pages!!
do i love house improvements? of course! as long as there are some workers coming along and we need not do all ourselves;) well, sometimes a question of money…
    happy t-day!

  • The new look for your home is amazing-I love it! always enjoy your art, and your tea this week sounds delcious-love the mermaid cup too
    Happy T wishes Kathy

  • Beautiful Asian themed book art Kate. Those home improvements sure can get pricey but they will only add value to the home. Your home looks lovely with the changes. Can’t help you with the plants as I don’t have even a pinch of green in my thumb:):) All I’m able to keep alive indoors is a small bamboo plant. Happy T day!

  • Home improvements and big things seem to go all at once. Our current projects new sump pump with battery back up, drains, painting the house, and vinyl siding all the trim and fascia boards. You have a pretty house. I like the new garage doors, too. We had that done also as the original to the house wooden one (60+ years) gave up the ghost. I love the colors and textures of your journal page. I’d love to add a koi pond to the Zensical garden, but have a feeling the koi wouldn’t survive the New England winters. Happy T Day

  • Wow, your house is beautiful! I love your new garage doors and balcony 😁. Your pages are gorgeous too, I love the Asian theme and the intricate fish – so pretty! Wishing you a very happy T Day! J 😊 x

  • Your house is lovely, I love the balcony, I can imagine you sit out there quite a lot in good weather.
I used to have lots of house plants but sadly in Spain they need too much water and seem to die quickly so I only have some silklowers instead.
I used to have an enormous spider plant that had lots of ‘Babies’ on it, always looked lovely on a pedestal table.
    Happy T Day

  • It’s definitely best when you can save up in advance of a project, but it’s not always possible. It looks like your improvements are coming right along. Nice!

I didn’t realize Aldi sold houseplants. I’ll have to look at what they have. I have a large Dracena that looks like your plant, and it roots so easily from cuttings that I’ll never have to buy another one. At least that’s my hope.

    Happy T Tuesday!

  • Your home looks lovely with the new deck and garage doors. Home improvements can seem never-ending. We have been working our way through renovating our whole house, which is a 1950s home. We just have the kitchen left to do now, so the end is almost in sight. I can’t wait till it’s all finished!
    Great journal pages!

  • Your home looks so welcoming and the difference in the photos show how much work you have been doing. Its costly owning your own home no matter which country you live in, but having your own home for your family is one of the best feeling in the world.
I loved your fabulous journal pages today Kate. Sorry I cannot help with the plant problems, my indoor plants are usually herbs at this time of year.
    Happy T day wishes.
    Yvonne xx

  • What a difference a bit of paint can make! Your house looks beautiful! Well done, you can be proud. Of course it is always better to anticipate problems before they occur and save some money for it. But sometimes you don’t have that luxury, and things need to be done immediately.
Your page with the oriental koi is beautiful. Is it a stamp?
    Hugs,
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca
