Journal Your Prayers: Mixed Media Journal

Couch Talk

With so much going on in the world right now, I have found the news depressing and affecting my mood when I spend too much time online. Things are up in the air about my children’s schooling for the fall with all the new restrictions going on and I am a bit on edge about it. I am a planner so not being able to plan stresses me out.

Have you ever read the book or seen the movie War Room? I just finished reading this book and it was fabulous. I was reminded to let God take control.

I decided it was time to spend less time dwelling on my fears and start praying about them. And what better way to keep track of my prayer request then to put them in a pretty book, so I made a journal to record them.

And aren’t those hydrangea’s beautiful? They are from my garden AND from the same bush. Crazy right? Who knew that one bush could have so many color variations.

Creating the Journal

I started with a blank journal from the Dollar Tree and covered it in brown packing paper.

I used PaperArtsy Infusions for the background and a Japanese Wave stamp embossed. I added a strip of sari fabric against the edge.

My background has been layered with patterned paper and some scrap background that I painted on. The main image is from PaperArtsy and has been sitting on my desk for quite a while. I am so glad that I finally got to use it.

Tea Day

I am joining the T day gang today at Elizabeth and Bleubeard’s. I found this beautiful tea cup online that caught my fancy. You can find it HERE.  I would love a few of these pretty cups but to be honest, they don’t hold enough tea for me. I keep my 32 ounce Yeti in hand all day with 3-4 refills. Too bad this pretty cup doesn’t come in a larger size.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • It’s amazing what you can do with a journal from Dollar Tree. This turned out beautiful. There’s no reason to have a drab journal when all they have to do is see your beautiful one as an example. It’s gorgeous. Perfect for your prayers, too.

I always heard that hydrangeas’ colors were tied to the acidity or base (alkaline) of the soil. You must have perfect soil, because I’ve NEVER seen hydrangeas with all those colors from a single bush. They truly are beautiful and you are blessed.

I think your tea bowl is beautiful, but I agree it doesn’t hold much. I think you’ll probably stick with your Yetti and drink tea all day long from that. Thanks for sharing your lovely journal cover and your tea with us for T this Tuesday, dear Kate.

  • Good morning Kate, I am with you-I had gotten quite ill last month from all the fears developing in my on what’s happening in the world right now. We stopped watching all media, and was watching things live online but I have stopped that as well. I can’t really change things right now but to take care of myself and my husband. to not open schools should be unacceptable-period.
Your journal is amazing! I love it-I found myself praying in the car yesterday on the way and back from and appt.
Your teas always sound so good Happy T hugs Kathy

  • The cover you created for your new journal looks beautiful, a good way to record your prayers and thoughts..
Stay safe and well, and I send you happy t day wishes.
the cup looked so pretty, but I agree with you that i would need a larger one as well.

  • your hydrangeas are gorgeous!!! Beautiful journal to use for your thoughts and prayers.
My hubby and I are planners as well, so I guess for those of us who are like this it can be especially hard to accept at times. But, it’s the way of the world right now.
That is a darling teacup but yes, I need a larger cup than that;) Happy T day!

  • The hydrangea are beautiful. Mother Nature uses the coolest color schemes.

I sent the War Room movie trailer to my husband. Maybe he can find the movie online.

Gorgeous page, Kate. I adore the background. And of course your layering.

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  • I like to be organised too, so I can understand how you are feeling! Your journal looks amazing, love the embossing powder and layers – gorgeous 😁. That little cup is beautiful, I think I would need something bigger too (grin!). Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

  • Those hydrangeas are gorgeous. I love the color selections. And nice journal ! Love the paper layering. Back to school is going to be stressful this year. For kids, parents, teachers…It is interesting how different places are doing things differently. And I wonder how many school will like the choices they made for this fall. Hope it was a happy T day. Hugs-Erika

  • Thanks for the recommendation. I have since bought the book as an e-book and have started reading it. I think I’m going to like this one. Thank you again.
Your decorated prayer journal looks beautiful. Years back I kept a prayer journal, I still have it somewhere. It might be time to dust it off and start using it again. (mine isn’t as pretty as yours).
That tea cup is gorgeous! The Japanese drink tea from a tiny cup and we drink it by the ‘gallon’ in a huge mug. It shows the difference in how we view tea….
    Happy (belated) T-Day,
    Lisca

  • I have reached the same conclusion Kate! I have stopped worrying so much now I watch less TV and know that the Lord will bless us and keep us safe, as long as we follow certain safety rules ourselves – it’s a two way thing! Your hydrangeas are absolutely gorgeous – Last year was the first year we had two colours on ours at the caravan – of course we sold it last Christmas so have no idea what this year will bring for the new owners .
I adore this journal cover – that face is fabulous! Your cup is the sort I buy to keep bits and pieces in – buttons to sew back on, pins, keys etc.
I will be e-mailing you with my address – sorry it wasn’t yesterday – my brother in law was taken to hospital with a heart problem – will probably have an operation today! Belated Happy T Day, Chrisx

  • I’ve stopped watching / reading the news almost completely. At the beginning of this covid-19 situation, it became too stressful for me to read, so I stopped. I check in every once in awhile, but mostly continue to avoid it. I’m using best practices to try to remain covid-19 free, but one can only do so much, also. I love the journal you made, for your prayers. The cover is beautiful. And I like the flowers from your garden. That tea cup is nice, but I agree: it’s kind of small. Happy belated T-Day!

  • Hello Kate. That is a beautiful Bible journal page. Turning to God in times like these is our best option, as it is at any time. Your hydrangeas are gorgeous.
Oh, and I haven’t read the book but our Bible study group watched the movie several years ago. I should read the book;, too. It was very powerful, and prayer provoking!
