Line Drawing In the Madhubani Style: A Couch Adventure

Couch Talk

Not much to report here. I am excited for the new year and looking forward to meeting some new goals. I am not making plans, other than personal development, as this year may prove to be more restrictive than the last. Vacation plans are on hold and we are taking it one day at a time. Taking into account everything learned last year, I am endeavoring to spend more time with the people I love, as well as sharing the love of Christ with the people I come in contact with. Real love seems to be at an all time low in society so I am going to be looking for ways to love, encourage and bless those around me.

Dabbling in Indian Art

As of late, I have been trying my hand at Madhubani art, an ancient Indian form of art. The above painting of the elephants (not mine) is an example of a professional painting. (If you click on the picture, it will take you to the website) If you remember, a while back I tried the Indian art form of Gond art where I painted deer, chickens and a bird. I find Madhubani the perfect artform for sitting on the couch while we are watching TV. The style I am working in, Katchni, is line based and only done in black, white, and red. I found a few workshops online to watch that have inspired me to practice.

This peacock was my very first drawing. All those circles on the peacocks body were giving me hand and neck cramps.

And a few bookmarks

Tea Day

It’s Tea day and I am joining the T ladies hosted by Elizabeth & Bleubeard. My tea today is Davidson’s Tea, Organic, White Spiced Peach, 16-Ounce Bag. I recieved this 1 pound bag of tea from my hubby for Christmas. White Spicy peach tea is my favorite kind of tea so I am always on the look out for this flavor from different brands. It is the perfect blend of spice, fruit and the flowery white tea.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Your Indian art is quite impressive Kate!! Your peacock is especially amazing. I have wanted to try the Gond style you mentioned but just have never gotten around to it.
    Enjoy that lovely sounding tea!

  • I recognized this as Indian art but the name Madhubani is a new one for me. Glad I now know the name. It’s a great style, isn’t it? Yours looks really authentic. Nice work Kate. Hope you had a great T day and that your new year is going well. Hugs-Erika

  • Beautiful artwork Kate! The name is new to me, but I have been doing this sort of thing for years. I also decorate envelopes with it. I have a whole series of pens in different sizes. It is alsofun to do it on kraft paper and use a white as well as a black pen.
It really is very relaxing to do.
    Happy (belated) T-Day,
    Lisca

  • I had a ton of paperwork I was trying to get out yesterday, which sucked up my time. I was late getting my T post up yesterday and now I’m even later playing host. I’m sorry I’m late visiting, Kate.

Your art made my hand cramp just looking at it. Lisca says it’s relaxing, but to me it is torture. No way to use my hand without gripping the pen, something I can’t seem to control. However, I am in AWE of what you created. I especially like the elephants and the fish. They are wonderful. Of course, that peacock is beautiful, too.

Your tea is rather expensive, but I guess it’s not out of line with what I pay at the Spice Merchant. My problem is, I would never be able to drink an entire pound of tea. It sounds wonderful, though.

Thanks for sharing your incredible Madhubani art, along with your new tea with us for T this Tuesday that is now Wed, thanks to me being so very late.

  • Kate! Amen and amen! Yes, me to, to tell more about the love of Christ. A great way to begin the new year. Prayers and good wishes for you as you do that. I thought it was zentangle! sure looks a lot like it. What ever, you do very well at it, like every other art you do. I didn’t realize your name was in my collage, until you pointed it out. How observant you are. Thanks for sharing T Day.

  • Your Indian line art drawings are wonderful. I especially like the kissing fish bookmarks. Well done. Take care and Happy T Day

  • Wonderful couch talk today, Kate. I hope to approach this year in the same way.

Your Indian art is beautiful and I enjoyed reading about the different forms.

Happy T-day! Stay safe and well. Hugs, Eileen

  • What a fabulous style of drawings. Love the vibrant colours too! You peacock is brilliant, so many small details , I imagine it is very relaxing to do! A very belated Happy T day! Chrisx
