Mermaids Have Laundry Too: Mixed Media Mail Art

Vacation Dreams

Summer is over but I am already dreaming of the sea and our visit next summer. It has been a while since hubby and I have been to the beach.  We are not really sun and sand people but all of our family wants to go to the beach so why not get excited about it, even if it is a few months early? I love family vacation and we try to plan a year ahead so we can find a good house. I wouldn’t say the packing and traveling part of vacation is fun but having a place that our little one’s can run around in, late game nights, yummy food and family time is totally worth the extra laundry. laundry=memories

Where is your favorite place to visit on vacation?

Creating the Postcard

The base of my post card is cardstock and book paper. Next, I added the Boho Mandala Stencil which has been embossed and colored with PaperArtsy Infusions. The mermaid is one of my hand-carved stamps. I stamped a Japanese wave stamp in the background and over her tail. Lastly, I added some thread and splatters.

Tea Day

I am joining Elizabeth and the ladies for Tea Day. I am sharing a few of my favorite Asian Teas in their pretty tins. I have these displayed on top of my tea cabinet.

  • Goodness, your mermaid is gorgeous. I was blown away when you said you carved her. She is mesmerizing, and I really, really, really, really want to know how you get all those layers and how you get the lift you get. I tried to create something with lift, and it turned out flatter than my curly hair in a wind storm. This is wonderful. My favorite place to visit on vacation is somewhere I have never been before. Since I have been to all the lower 48 states and Mexico, I would love to visit the other two, Canada, and Europe, too.

I have that exact same jasmine tea. I bought mine in Chinatown in LA one year, and was disappointed when I got home and learned it was not Jasmine flower. I’m still on the hunt for that particular tea. The other two teas I’ve not seen, but I sure like the colorful display of those three. Thanks for sharing these with us for T this Tuesday.

  • Happy T Day Kate. I LOVE your mermaid today. And I know what you mean about planning early and the beach is a great place for kids. I’m not a sit in the sand person either but it was always a good way when my daughter was little. And now is the time to make those family memories. Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika

  • love your mermaid card! I am a beach lover thru and thru so I am always dreaming of a next visit to the Atlantic ocean. And I am fortunate to live within a few hours drive of many beach side towns:) Happy T day!

  • Your mermaid card is awesome-I really love it. I have that jasmine tea tin too-probably since the late ’80s lol we used to visit the Chinese and Japanese food markets quite often when we lived near a large city-Happy T hugs Kathy

  • We’re so far from a beach that we just never go there. I’d find it a real treat 🙂 The tea tins make for much more attractive display than the boxes that are on my counter. Pretty!

  • Your mixed media mermaid card looks fantastic.. My choice for a holiday beak is the countryside, I am not really a seaside person. However its a wonderful destination for families to play on the beach.
    Your tea tins look lovely.
    Happy T day wishes.

  • Wow Kate! I love all the fabulous texture you created here! This is one brilliant postcard! We used to self cater when our grandchildren were yoinger – much easier! Love the tea tins! Happy T day! Chrisx

  • I never thought about mermaids having to do laundry. Too fun. Wonderful tag. Mostly, we did staycations and day trips here and there. We’re not to far from the ocean so there were trips to the beach when the girlies were little. With the Eldest in PA, family vacations now are going out to visit her. Won’t be long before the Young One leaves the nest so I cherish the moments when we are all together. Happy T Day

    • Thanks Johanna! I will check this out. I only know Tyvek to be used under siding and roofing. I am excited to read your post. Thank you!

  • Loving your mermaid Kate! and yes, thoughts of the beach and shore do sound pretty good today amidst the rain and cold!
Sorry I have not been around, I have been battling an upper respiratory infection- 3 weeks now! ICK!

  • My favorite place to travel is any Caribbean beach. I love the clear beautiful blue waters and wide white sandy beaches. Glad you had a good beach time with your family – despite the extra laundry, Kate 😉

I love your hand carved mermaid stamp and the gorgeous cars. I’d Iike to reach in and feel the fabulous texture.

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
