Milk Chocolate Bars and A Pretty Purse : Mixed Media Purse
Museum Day
This past Saturday we spent several hours at The Hershey Story in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Hubby and I both grew up less than a few hours from Hershey,Pennsylvania and we never visited this museum dedicated to the history of Milton Hershey. For those of you that don’t know, Milton Hershey founded Hershey Chocolate. He was very generous with his money and started the Milton Hershey school for boys. I was not quite sure if my children would like it as it was a history museum but they had a lot of fun. Even my youngest had fun with the interactive exhibits.
This beautiful crystal torchere was created for the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Milton Hershey purchased it for 5000 dollars and put it in the foyer of his mansion.
I just had to take a picture of this lovely tea set that the Hershey’s used on their table. Aren’t those cups gorgeous?
Creating the Purse
It has been a while since I stamped and painted a purse for my daughter so I thought it was about time. When I saw these stamps staring at me I knew they would be perfect. I purchased them over a year ago but have not found the time to use them.
I stamped my images on 4 different pieces of fabric plus the strap. My hand was cramping by the end but the extra time spent was well worth it.
At first, I contemplated stamping/painting the strap but I am glad I did.
I used PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Paints to paint the images and a black pen to outline.
Making purses, dresses and accessories for my daughter is one of my favorite ways to spend my time. We even started a purse together today. She picked the stamps and painted it herself. We had one meltdown when it didn’t turn out exactly as she wanted (even though she picked it all out and did it herself). That’s when I decided it was time for a nap.
Tea Day
Today is tea day and I am joining in with the T ladies over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard’s. My tea today is Tiesta Tea Blueberry Wild Child.Ā See all those pretty colors? That nice blue is cornflowers.

I take it you took advantage of Smithsonian Museum Day, too. I took 769 photos at the museum I visited. I hope you will share more from Hershey Museum, because it sounds like a place I’d love to visit, except for the high price of the various combinations of places you can visit. Did the boys get to visit the Chocolate Lab? That sounded like fun to me.
Your purse turned out great. I can’t believe you stamped and painted all those roses and Frida, too. I can see why your hand was cramped when you finished. It turned out unbelievable, though, Kate. It was unusual, unique, and definitely one of a kind.

First of all, very cool purse Kate. That is one of my most favorite Dina Wakely sets, and it works so well for a purse! And this looks like great museum. Sometimes our kids surprise us, don’t they? Wonderful photos of your family visit to the museum. . Interactive things for the children is a bonus and hopefully grab their interest in going for similar destinations in the future .

Have you noticed how we often have common themes being shared at T? This week it’s mid-20th century museums. I’m not surprised the children had fun at a museum about a man who made chocolate candy.

We visited Hershey Park many years ago when some friends got married and Himself was an usher in the wedding. We couldn’t go to the amusement park because it was November and the park was closed. I remember we went to see how the chocolate was made. We had a ride like the old-fashioned tunnel of love rides and the seat smelled like chocolate. I don’t remember seeing the beautiful items from the Hershey household. We did buy candy and a Christmas ornament for our first Christmas tree. The purse you made is so pretty. You are so clever. I would love to go to this Hershey museum. Only recently we watched a history documentary about Hershey and Mars candy makes. Very interesting, how Hershey was so concerned about the people and town he created there. Your purse is lovely; you are so creative. Thanks Kate, for a wonderful post for T Day. š
What a fab museum! Thank you for taking us there. I haven’t heard of Hershey chocolate and when he founded he factory, but in the UK several chocolate factories sprung up to counteract the alcohol addiction inthe cities. My hubby worked for Fry’s, later Cadbury’s and they were Quaker families. They were very good for their workers, building entire villages, complete with schools and leisure facilities. Interesting.
Your purse is gorgeous. You are so talented. That was a lot of work to hand stamp and paint all those little roses. And putting Frida on there is such a nice touch.
I’m sorry I am late in commenting. We’ve been away camping on the coast and there was no wifi on the campsite.
