Mug Shots Over A Cup of Tea: Daily Art Practice

Couch Talk

It is definitely starting to feel like winter here. One week the temperatures were 70 degrees and this week the wind is biting, and it is in the 30’s with a predicted snowfall. I usually love winter but I like to ease into it. The trees are becoming more bare but that means we can see more of the mountains. Here is another morning view

Daily Art Practice

While I have been experiencing artist block, I didn’t want to stop making art completely, so I kept up with my mug shot sketching. I got this fabulous book from the library that has mug shots from as far back as the early 1900’s. Some of them are very unique and make great subjects for sketching.

Least Wanted

This next layout is a study of sketches from the following books. I am working on how to make quick sketches that get the point across with minimal detail and color. This is really hard for me as I tend to overdue things, forgetting that “less is more.”  Both of these books are great, especially the one by John Muir Laws.

Tea Day

I am joining the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is Tiesta Tea – Pineapple Blues. I LOVE pineapple in my tea and this is such a great blend of flavors.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

Your pineapple blue tea sounds delicious. I bet it tastes good, too. Thanks for sharing the mug shot and nature drawings with us for T this Tuesday, Kate.

  • That is a gorgeous photo Kate. We’ve got snow predicted overnight tonight, which means today I need to go pick up the rest of my yard. Your drawings are super too. You’ve really gotten face drawing down. Happy T day and week ahead. hugs-Erika

  • OMGosh these faces are simply wonderful. I see so many features that really show up. Ears, eyes, and just the expressions. Brilliant. You are such a talented artist. Have a great day.

  • What a lovely photo of the trees and the mountains. Yes, the weather has changed here too and today was blustery and dark. So we have lit the stove as soon as the sun went down.
I love your art, and the mug shots are fun to look at.
    Happy T Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  • So geared to T Day, I thought mug shots was going to be drawings of different coffee mugs 😺 Your mug shots are a lot better and more interesting. Happy T Day

  • Dear Kate,
apparently the cold came to you very suddenly. Even if it doesn’t sound like the weather is nice where you are, your morning view looks absolutely beautiful. It’s been foggy gray here for days and doesn’t look that attractive by a long shot.
Your drawings are great again. A fun idea to draw mug shots!
    All the best, happy t-day
    and have a good time!
