New Tea for the Snowstorm : A Couch Adventure

Couch Talk

As you can see, are in the midst of a 3 day snow storm. I love the opportunity to be hauled up in our home with no place to go. All I need is quiet time, a book and a large cuppa tea.

Speaking of tea…

I wanted to share the lid of my tea strainer. Thanks to my cousin, I recently discovered this amazing BOTTLE BRIGHT (12 Tablets) – All Natural, Biodegradable, Chlorine & Odor Free Water Bottle & Hydration Pack Cleaning Tablets Clear. As you can see, the silver is the clean side and the brown is the,— well, the tea scum. These tablets are amazing! I used it on my teapot, which to my shame, I haven’t cleaned since I got it two years ago. I swirled water and attempted a sponge here and there but it didn’t do much. Overnight with one of these tablets had it looking like new. My Yeti also looks brand new after one of these tabs.

Sketching

Here are a few recent sketches.

Illustration

I found a few pictures on Pinterest that I liked. I have read that it is good to copy illustrations that you like to help practice and develop ones style, not to sell of course. Here are a few that I made this week.

Tea Day

I am joining the T day ladies hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard.

Recently, I was contacted by a Tea company in China, Natural Puerh. They offered to send me some teas to try in exchange for sharing my experience on my blog. After a month in the post, the tea finally arrived.

Here is the selection that they sent me to try. I have never heard of any of these teas, except for the Puerh so I am excited to give these a try.

Biluochun DBT is what I am trying today. This is an excerpt from their website to describe this tea:

“This Dongting Bilochun went through the labor intensive process of hand-twisting. Careful curling and twisting the leaves under gentle heat to lock in the most sweetness possible. This brings out the best balance of sweet fruity aromatics and the rich, crisp roasted bean flavor of fresh spring harvest tea. 500 g of Bi Luo Chun tea is made from around 60-70 thousands tender buds.”

Wow! I am amazed that each tea leaf has been hand twisted. I love the color variegation.

The leaves while being infused.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this green tea. It was smooth, delicious, and devoid of any earthy flavor. I was even able to get two steeps out of it. I would definitely recommend this tea.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • I really enjoyed this post…thanks for the recommendation of cleaner tabs too. I wonder how they’d work on my enameled Dutch oven. The inside of that is a disgrace. Happy T day!

  • Nice to see how your sketches are coming along. Love that teacup illustration!
And how nice to get some new tea to try in exchange for a post- win, win!
Getting hammered here with the snow, but unlike you, I am not happy to have it.
    Happy T day!

  • I need to get some of those tablets for sure. My Yeti looks worse for wear. And our snow from this same storm started a few hours ago. I’m with you. It is nice to have a book, tea and a big blanket on these kind of days for certain. As long as I don’t end up having to shovel. Smile. have a great T day Kate, and hope your sun is back out soon. hugs-Erika

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE the giraffe in a teacup! That made me smile this morning 🙂 I will look for those tablets! what a great find, and it’s safe & easy to use ~ SOLD!. I’ve never heard of this tea or seen a strainer that pretty before ~ Your teaching me all kinds of new things this Tuesday. Enjoy the snow and your tea this week!

  • Wow, those faces are amazing. An angry, a happy and a sad face. You really put the emotion in there. Great.
Yes, that is a lot of snow. Brrr! As you say, stay indoors with the stove on and a good book.
How exciting that you get to try out these new teas. So unusual to have green tea hand twisted. I’ll be looking forward to your next one.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  • iI was excited to see your sketches. I am always interested in other people’s art. Enjoy your new teas, I look forward to your reviews.

  • The angry face you drew looks like me when I hear the snow word! 😺 I don’t mind the storm as much when I know everyone is safe at home. Happy T Day!

  • What a fun post, I especially look forward to reading your reviews of these teas. They were a bit out of my price range, but I sure look forward to wishing and dreaming. Thanks for sharing these, along with your darling drawings with us for T this week, dear Kate.

  • The snow looks beautiful! I’m sorry to say that your tea although it has such lovely names doesn’t have any appeal at all for me – sorrreeeee!
Your sketches are all so wonderful – really must sit and practice more! Belated Happy T day, Chrisx
