No One Tells You About the Fine Print: Mixed Media Journal Layout
The Fine Print
Parenting is similar to the fine print at the bottom of commercials. Full disclosure is seldom given and when it is given, it is too tiny to read. When I first became a parent everybody mentioned the lack of sleep and the terrible two’s but somehow they forgot to mention potty training and that colic phase that infants experience. That and a whole slew of other phases. My 10-year-old son has the eye roll down like a teenage girl, my almost 8-year-old negotiates and argues like a lawyer and my 2-year-old daughter calls me “Kate” while walking through the house in search of me.
I jumped into parenting thinking I knew more than the average individual and found out I knew far less. So many days, I am not sure what I am doing or whether I am doing the right thing. But I am so glad that I have an amazing hubby next to me to walk this crazy windy road called parenting. I pray that at the end of it, hubby and I have great relationships with each one of our children and their spouses. I know that if we can get past the difficult stages everything will be ok. So, I’ll let you know in 16 years when my youngest goes off to college.
Creating the Journal Layout
Recently, I co-taught my first art journaling class. It was so much fun once I got past the initial nervousness. We started off by prepping our book to receive different mediums. This was the page that I started in class and finished at home.
I started off by painting and stamping the background. I then added embellishments and used some gesso and a stencil.
I used a copy of one of my TH Paper Dolls and added some color to it. The rest of the embellishments are scraps from my table.
I am joining the ladies for tea over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard‘s. As you can see, I am sharing my cast iron teacup, lily pad saucer and a very yummy Teavana Pineapple Koni Pop tea. It tastes very sweet but can be very overpowering. I can only drink one cup at a time and that’s saying a lot from a girl who drinks 3 plus quarts a day,
Happy Tea Day,
