Peanut Butter Topped Fish: Daily Art Practice

We celebrated another birthday this weekend and I made a Peanut Butter Chocolate cake for my son. He turned 14! We have a few months break until the next birthday party so I am going to catch a breath and work on baking some new things. I would love to try cooking some Japanese food such as tempura and California rolls. Does anyone have some recipe suggestions? Please, send them my way.


Watercolor Study


Life has not allowed for a lot of painting as of late so I will share the one thing I completed in the past month. I wanted to start studying subjects that were of interest but had never painted. This “Fish Study” was a compilation of pictures that I found online. I learned a lot and would love to spend more time on this subject in the future as there are so many different textures and varieties of seafood to paint.

I never ate fish growing up but since then I have tried many kinds and have found all of them to be delicious depending on how they are cooked.

  • That is a fancy birthday cake, but looks so delicious.. And I love the idea it was peanut butter and chocolate. It is amazing how fast our kids grow up, isn’t it? I don’t have any good Japanese recipes as finding the ingredients to make them taste authentic means by unique things, such as Japanese mayonnaise. My best luck has been with udon noodles and making soup with it. Good luck and I hope you share some with us.. (I have tried a Japanese cheesecake which was yummy and might airer than our cheesecake and I have made a yuzu sponge cake.. If you are interested in baking let me know and I can send along the recipes.) I am loving your fish drawings too. In fact with your title I thought you were serving fish with a Thai peanut butter sauce,. That would be yummy. I hope you have a great week ahead and also T day too. hugs-Erika

  • That cake looks delicious and beautiful as well! I also like your fish paintings. I have always liked fish and seafood, I actually prefer them to meat. Living close to the ocean we always get very fresh fish which is lovely.

  • Oh that cake is so pretty! And I’m sure it tasted as good as it looks. The combination of chocolate and peanut butter is a new one for me. I asked my husband and he thinks it would be worth a try. The next time our supermarket sells peanut butter (Once a year during ‘American week’) I’ll buy some and try a recipe.

  • I’ve never had Peanut Butter Chocolate cake, but it sounds delicious. I’ve also been looking for some Japanese recipes, but they all seem to have so many ingredients I would not use for anything else. Happy T Tuesday!

  • That cake could be on the cover of a foodie magazine. You did a fabulous job and always seem to come up with the best birthday cakes around. Your fish and crustation watercolors are stunning. So very impressive. BTW, fish used to be really affordable. Now both salt and fresh water fish are so expensive. I used to smoke whole salmons and give them as gifts at Christmas. Now I can barely afford a salmon steak!

  • Hi Kate! I love your fish paintings this week, they are so realistic. As for Japanese food, I cook it quite often but all my recipes are vegan/vegetarian if that helps. Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx
