Poinsettias For Christmas: Mixed Media Tag
Poinsettia’s For Christmas
I am not really a fan of poinsettias but maybe that is because growing up our church covered the front with red ones. Church members would donate money to purchase the poinsettias ‘In Memory Of’ and the next Sunday there would be an entire page in the bulletin dedicated to deceased loved ones. Now I associate red poinsettias with death. Around Christmas time I certainly don’t want to think about death. Unless it it the death of Jesus Christ, which has made eternal life possible. That is the one and only death that I am thankful for. Christ’s coming, death and resurrection is why I celebrate Christmas.
So, while I was shopping at Lowes this past Friday, I found this beautiful light green poinsettia. I like this delicate color so much better. So, I bought a few. I also bought a red one but I gave it away. 😉
Making the Tag
Inspiration
Here is tag #7 for the 12 tags of Christmas over at The Funkie Junkie sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique. You can see Linda’s Tag Here. I am drawing inspiration from the poinsettia, the black frame and the word tape on Linda’s tag.
The Process
I stenciled using a Stencil Girl stencil over patterned paper. I painted over top and daubed ink. A script stamp was stamped over top. Next, I started adding my embellishments. I made some poinsettias using a spellbinders die, added a fancy frame die, fiber, gold twigs and a stamped little boy from Artistic Outpost.

Gorgeous tag, love all the dimensional embellishments and the muted colours. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
As usual, your design and execution are spot on. Beautiful tags! Merry Christmas.
I love these grungy poinsettias and the snowball centers. I’m a huge fan of the brown/green combo for Christmas, so this hits all of my buttons. Stunning design work! Hugs, Autumn
Such al lovely layering and beautiful card!
Wow, wow, wow. This tag is fabulous. Even your tags have layers and layers of beauty. Those poinsettias are fabulous, and I like the live one(s) you purchased, too. Simply stunning artwork again, dear Kate.
Hello Kate!
Slowly catching up on my reading, so I will be traveling backward today!

I do get what you are saying though…

A fantastic card Kate! Your layering is fantastic! I like the white poinsettas also more than the red ones – I think they are more elegant, but I like them both! Can imagine that you like the red ones not so much with those memories in head. For me it are the red carnations that let me think of my childhood – always carnations everywhere and mostly red – for bouquets, funeral wreaths … I don’t like them now!
How lovely, Kate! I love your alternative poinsettia colours – and that pale green one is really lovely too. Like you, I’m unimpressed by the red ones – by red generally, really – and I find poinsettias very overblown and sort of artificial somehow, so I’ll go for almost anything in preference to that! Love this glorious, textured, nature tag.

This is outstanding, Kate. The layers are fantastic. Love the depth with the text stamping and the embossing paste at the top. I defintiely agree that your vintage look poinsettia is amazing. I totally love it too, especially with the touches of gold and the wonderful gold branch to accent it. I’m so delighted that you are sharing your work with my visitors for the challenge this year!
Hugs,
Linda

I love your grungy take on Linda’s tag! the textured background, the patterned tag backing the boy and those poinsettias! I’m NOT a fan of red poinsettia’s but I adore poinsettia’s in unusual colors in crafting, so your’s tickle me pink! This is one of my favorites of yours, but it’s a close competition. Hugs! Sara Emily
