Snow Is For The Birds : Daily Art Practice
Couch Talk
I missed posting last week due to being away in Florida. The day I left, it was 20 degrees at the bus stop… BRRR. When I got to Florida, everyone was exclaiming how cold it was at 67 degrees. I’ll take it! The sun was bright and the palm trees were nice and green. Unfortunately, it was a bit chilly for the pool but we were able to take walks around the lake and enjoy the sunshine from the Lanai. I can see how people want to retire in Florida. Winter in Florida is great but not so much in the summer when the temperatures and humidity are high. Being a snow bird (someone who goes to warmer weather for the winter) sounds more to my liking.
Above is a picture of the view from the plane window as we were flying over D.C. We were able to see the beautiful sunrise. Look at that sky! What a beautiful planet God has made. Views like this make me in awe of his handiwork.
Daily Watercolor Practice
In January, I shared a picture of my New Year’s charcuterie board. I took a picture with the intent to paint the board but it took a little while before I got the chance. This is a full layout in my 8 x 12 journal.
The next page was done entirely in ball point pen. I wanted to learn how to use ball point pens for sketching so I watched several YouTube tutorials. The pens I used are PaperMate. I bought a variety pack with many different colors. For the eyes, I like using a light color to start sketching and then a darker color to add depth. I want to explore sketching with a pen more in the future. It is really easy to make it look like a mess so I will need to give it a lot of practice.
Tea Day
I am joining the Tea Day ladies, hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea today is Twinings of London Lemon & Ginger Herbal Tea . I bought this tea because I had a coupon from Ibotta and lemon and ginger are a delicious combination. This is a great digestive tea and soothing for an upset stomach.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
Oh how absolutely wonderful to be able to enjoy warm weather in a place like Florida right n ow! 67 degrees- I’ll gladly take:) It is wondrous to look out of the plane windows and see the sun coming up- or even setting for that matter. Fab looking charcuterie board, and your pen sketches are so good too. Have a great week, and happy T day!
I can understand that Florida must be very nice when you get there in the winter arriving from a cold winter. What a lovely break from the cold. Your charcuterie baord looks great and quite delicious.
Lucky you to escape to Florida Kate. Did you go on your own or with your whole family? And I like you charcuterie illustration as well as your faces. They are quite striking done in pen and not watercolored. I hope you don’t have to deal with too much winter this week and you have a great T day too. hugs-Erika
It is a lovely photo of God’s handiwork, Kate. Your sketch is good. Would you believe until this past year I had never heard of a charcuterie board? I must say I like your eyes, your ball point sketched eyes, that is. Thanks for sharing and for tea. Happy T Day.
A beautiful view indeed, and your painting makes me hungry! It´s so beautiful!
As are the ball pen portrait-sketches! Interesting approach, too!
I´ll start with Gennaro Contaldo´s book on lemons today 🙂
Kate, your charcueterie board painting is fabulous. I may have to try and draw one of mine. Super faces too. You do such interesting art.
How fun you got to get away to Florida – my daughter did as well. I was able to get to the mountains this weekend so I can’t complain.
Love your tea!
Super cool post as always. Happy T-day and hugz!
I like the heat, so Florida sounds great to me. If it weren’t for those hurricanes…
Happy T Tuesday
Fabulous, my friends are snowbirds and head to Florida for 3 months of the year to escape the cold 😁. Loving your paintings, as always and that lemon and ginger tea sounds delicious! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs Jo x
Great that you’ve been able to get away to the sunshine and the milder weather. I have just come back from nearly three weeks in the cold and wet and I craved the sun. Did you go with your husband or did the children come too?
What a stunning photo! Yes, God’s handiwork is marvelous. He created the earth and saw that it was good. Unfortunately we humans have made a mess of it.
Your drawings are awesome. I particularly like your food drawings. I have always wanted to do that (draw what we eat). Your tea choice this week is excellent!
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
I’d take 67 oF for Winter temps. all Winter long. Very cool sketches with your ballpoint pens. Himself brought a stomach bug home from the college so I’ve been drinking a lot of the lemon ginger tea. Happy T Day
Nice in Florida in winter. My son and his family live in Jacksonville. I have been there a few times BC (before covid) and I love it there. Wonderful art as always. I love the faces, great expressions. Have a very nice day.
Love your charcuterie board Kate, how fantastic! And your ballpoint pen sketches. I remember using them for drawing a lot as a kid as that was all that was available often, no fancy pens and pencils. Happy T Day Elle/EOTC xx
Sorry I’m late visiting, Nursing two cats. I love your drawings. I bought a bunch of those Babybel cheeses and found out I don’t care for them. Too bad we don’t live closer. You could have mine,
Your tea sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing it with us, as well as your plane trip, and your sketches for T this Tuesday, Kate.
It’s funny, I used to draw all the time when I was younger, always with a ball point! Now I try to get back into the habit but it’s hard for me for whatever reason. But these moody eyes truly make me want to have a go! And what a yummy charcuterie board! Looks beautiful in the soft coloring. Can you believe it’s near the end of February? Yikes! xx, Autumn
