Stacks of Tea Cups and Laundry: Mixed Media ATC

Stacks

Laundry is one of the first things that comes to mind when I think of ‘stacks’. Especially after I have just completed washing, drying and folding several loads of laundry. For 10 glorious minutes my laundry basket is empty. And then my daughter leaves a trail of pee through the house, requiring me to dig out all the rags and a fresh change of clothes. My closet also tends to be ‘stacked’ with items I don’t know where to put. We have a huge walk-in closet that I can’t walk in because of all the ‘bags to sell’ or ‘boxes to donate’ cluttering up the floor.  It is amazing how much stuff we accumulate. Yet, I am tempted to buy more.

Going to yard sales is quite the adventure, minus the children. But I am always tempted to buy more than I need because I find something I like and it is usually a good deal. Having only been to a few sales this year, I realize that my home is still comfortably furnished and my children still clothed. We have survived without all the extra ‘wants.’ So, before buying anything new I now try to discard something before bringing it home. At least, I am trying too. 😉

Creating the ATC

I created this ATC for the swap hosted by Elizabeth. Because this swap was part of T Day, I decided to make a Tea themed piece. I covered the background with used tea bags and then stenciled and embossed the Collage, Textures and Patterns and Circles Stencil. I sprayed with Dylusions and embossed in yellow. I then layered some book paper in the background, stamped the Chinese Background and sprayed with PaperArtsy Infusions. The Alice stamp is by Crafty Secrets and the foliage is Cavallini & CO. The tea cups are by Stampers Anonymous.

Tea Tuesday

Here is the lovely ATC and tea themed goodies sent to me by my swap partner Sharon- Foxy Stamping. She sent me some very beautiful stamped images and die cuts along with a gorgeous card! Thank you, Sharon!

Today, I am linking to Elizabeth‘s for Tea Day. And I am sharing my newest ferment- Milk Kefir. My best friend came for a visit this week and she brought me some kefir grains. I am so excited to read up and find some new ways to use the Kefir such as cheese, smoothies and spreads.

Happy Tea Day!

Kate

  • One of the reasons I simply adore your art is because of your stacks. I always am in awe of how well you stack items and I can’t seem to ever get that same effect. no matter how hard I try. Your ATC is fabulous and I was so impressed with everything you added to it. I know Sharon is thrilled with the lovely ATC. I also was glad you shared the ATC Sharon sent you. She also sent you a nice amount of tea related art that you will be able to use in your own work.

I admit I’ve never heard of Milk Kefir before, so had to read about it. I think it is something you and your family will enjoy and from reading about it. it sound s like it last indefinitely. Thanks for sharing your ATC and your Milk Kefir with us for T this Tuesday.

  • That’s a fantastic ATC you sent, and the one from Sharon is pretty, too. Kids do make a lot of work, that’s true. Good idea to sort things out before buying new. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  • we love to go to garage sales-have many many useful items found that way from spinning wheels, a rug loom, and lots of loved kitchen items-and clothes. we stopped going several years ago we are out of spaces ha ha

oh, the kefir… reminds me of the months we we had one – until nobody couldn´t see it any more. but it is a healthy food, so have a good time with it:)
    happy t-day ♥

  • Your ATC is tremendous, with so much art in the tiny space. and with glorious colouring too. I enjoyed your writing about “Stacks” (maybe not so much about the Pee, haha!). The Kefir sounds interesting, I must look it up.
    Happy Tea Day!

  • Your ATC is so amazing with all its wonderful layers! I love the colours that you used and the Alice theme is perfect too 😀. Wow, you received such a beautiful ATC too, the colours and design are fabulous and there are so many lovely goodies too – how exciting! Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊 x

  • So glad the ATC made its way safely to your place. Thank you for swapping with me. Yours was amazing! Loved the Alice theme! Milk kefir is new to me. I like that I learn new things visiting the Tea Gang on Tuesday’s! Happy Tea Day, Kare!

  • That’s a great ATC Kate. I like the stacks story and how it all relates together. And II like kefir, but I have never made it. I’ve done yogurt, which is the best, so I bet the kefir tastes really good too. You’ll have to let us know. Happy T day. hugs-Erika

  • Your ATC is simply fantastic Kate! You received a wonderful ATC and great goodies!
    Oh the kefir sounds interesting!
Doing laundry is just so boring…I wonder what people with 8 or 9 children do?! Their washing machines and dryers must run day and night.
Yes and I am in awe of people who have their colthes well organized – I tend to save allfirst but after two years not used I donate it. That’s the best – since I have this mantra all looks at least a bit better organized and not so overfilled .
    Happy T-Day my friend!

  • Your daughter still does that, Kate? You must be really tired of it.

You and Sharon both made fabulous ATCs!

I’ve never tried kefir. I wouldn’t even know where to buy it. I hope you’ll let us know how your experiments taste 😉

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  • “Yet, I am tempted to buy more.” roflol! Ain’t it the truth! I’m trying to do better, but….

I like the layers -the stacks- in your ATC. That’s one place stacking turned out well 🙂 Happy T Tuesday

  • Both the ATC you made and the one you received look super Kate! I adore all the texture and detail you managed to fit on to yours, so clever to do that on such a small space. I also always love to read your musings about the things going on in your life…
