Stamping on Fabric: Mixed Media Purse

Birds

Surprisingly, I heard birds singing today. It was a balmy 70 degrees outside, I noticed new blooms on my rose bush and it doesn’t seem at all like fall. The only thing I have left to do in my garden is dig up my sweet potatoes. Hopefully, I will get a better yield this year as we added some different soil. We have a lot of clay in our soil so in the past, everything other than the potato directly attached to the vine has been stunted due to the density of the clay. And due to the rain I have been putting off digging them up but I think this weekend I will have to give in and get dirty.

At least we will be gaining an extra hour of sleep this weekend. Driving my children to the bus stop in the dark is messing with my sleep cycle. I should be sleeping when it is dark. Haha.

Creating The Purse and Tag

I used PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Paints and Stamps for this project. For the Purse I used the free pattern Ruby’s Party Bag by Moda Bake Shop.

I started off by stamping my images in Archival ink  onto the fabric front main for my purse.

I painted the images using the PA paints. After they dried, I finished assembling my bag using the sewing machine.

The background of my tag was stenciled using a StencilGirl Stencil and then painted and stamped. The main images were stamped, cut and layered onto the tag.

As we are nearing the holiday season, this would make the perfect gift for a little girl or someone who loves purses. I made this for my daughter but I lengthened the strap so she could wear it as a cross purse. She loves wearing this to church and it is the perfect size to carry her Gideon New Testament

What have you made with fabric stamping?

Happy Weekend,

Kate

  • This is beautiful, Kate. It’s an adorable little purse and I bet your daughter loves it. Those birds are SO cute, too.

I’ve stamped on fabric and added the piece to the cover of a scrappy journal. I like yours better, I think.

  • Kate, this is such a fun and inspiring post! I love the whimsical nature of both projects and you are a master at adding those perfect details to your work. Big hugs to you today my friend, Autumn

  • Such a sweet purse, I can imagine your daughter loving this! The tag is lovely too, the stamped tree and clouds are set off wonderfully by the structure and colours of the background.

  • How adorable and such a fun idea! Great Christmas gift this would make(if you already hadn’t given it!)
Sweet potatoes?? My favorite! Where did you find the proper vines to plant Kate? We are never able to find any here in the spring.
    Hugs, Jackie xx

    • Our local greenhouse carries them and they are so yummy! Really orange and sweet. Much better than store bought as they haven’t been sitting for months. Hope you can find some.
