Stars In My Eye: Mixed Media Junk Journal
Stars In My Eyes
We are finishing up that last of our renovations in the family room/Craft area this week. My hubby has been doing a amazing job painting, flooring and putting in baseboards. It looks fabulous compared to my furniture painting. Today I spent almost 3 hours painting a couple book cases and a filing cabinet so I could keep with the color scheme. Now that the paint is dry all I can see are the spots that I missed. I am hoping that no one will notice once all the shelves are filled with pretty things but it is obvious that I don’t have the knack when it comes to furniture painting.
The stars come into my eyes when I start dreaming of what my completed craft room will look like when I get all the storage I want. Of course it may not look like my Craft Storage Board on Pinterest but I am hoping to come up with some pretty and creative ways to make it resemble my style.
So,if you have any tips on creative storage or just want to share a pretty picture of your craft area I would LOVE to see it!
Making the Journal Layout
The Inspiration
Here is the next layout in my Junk Journal. You can see my previous layout HERE.
The Process
As I said in the previous post, this journal was made using a magazine as the base. I painted the pages using Fresco Finish Paints. I used Infusions in the background and embossed in white and yellow.
As you can see, the paper bubbled quite a bit while heating the embossing powder. This is where I learned that I needed to add a paper base over the magazine pages. After adding a bunch of other scraps and a focal image, my layout is complete.
Thanks for Looking and Happy Tea Day. Check out the rest of the T ladies over at Elizabeth‘s.

Wonderful journal page, and glad your craft room is nearing completion. I don’t have a craft room and can imagine that must be very nice. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

Are there dreams to fulfil with those stars? This is a great page Kate. I love all the bits and layers. You should link up over at ARt Journal Journey as this is really an arting adventure. And happy T day. Hugs-Erika
fabulous page Kate! So many layers and imagery to admire. How exciting to see your new craft room coming together. Happy T day!
The texture and colours and the layering – beyond beautiful Kate! GORGEOUS!!!
I hope you will share a picture of the renovation in the end – always much work. I have a big room upstairs, but I can’t use it as craftroom since one of my both dogs is a bit too old for the steps but the dogs always want to be with me the whole day – so I am in the living room for crafting – even though I would have this big room — that’s a bitter fate but I love my dog as much as it would be my child. It’s a boy and he grew up with my daughter, so he is my “son” as well and he loves me over the moon and I love him.
HAPPY T-DAY!

Lovely page! The colours, layers and textures are amazing 😁. Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊
Fab page! I’m just a bit jealous about the talented DIY husband…
Thanks for joining us at Country View Challenges this month!
I apologize for taking so long to visit. I’ve had internet woes and just got back online. I chhhhecked out your Pinterest page and noticed that all the fabric storage was set up for large pieces of fabric. I seldom purchase over 4″ to 8″ of a piece of fabric, unless it’s tulle. I’d love to know how others deal with their small scraps. And of course, I want to see your craft room as it progresses, too, PLEASE. Not just when it’s completely finished. You can make journal pages from the progress, too, like I did with my kitchen remodel in an altered book.
Your journal page is wonderful. I am in awe, as always, with the amount of layers you get with each page. My pages are always so flat. I want to come visit you and take lessons on how you put your pages together from the beginning. Guess I’m a visual learner (grin).
Thanks, too for joining us for T this Tuesday. I am curious as to the plant you shared with the tea, too.
Sorry for a late reply. I love the idea of making a journal of the progression. Thanks for the idea.
And to answer your question, I am unsure of the name of the plant but it is a succulent. It blooms a beautiful red flower in the summer. 🙂
Aaahhh magazine pages…. I love them but hate them… I’m always drawn to their lovely pictures and colors but the material is a bear to work with. .Your ArtJournal Page turned out beautiful Kate! Happy happy T day! Hugs! deb
Truly gorgeous mixed media piece! Wonderful color, textures and layering. Love that teal color contrasted with the yellow and rust. Is this a tall, narrow book you bound yourself? I’m gonna have to take a look at more of your posts…. happy T day! ♥
What a beautiful journal page!
I had a great time checking out your Pinterest page, and drooled and dribbled over those impossibly gorgeous craft rooms. I liked the idea of hanging up projects in progress. I also like the Tim Holz rotary lazy susan type thingy.
Anyway it is so exciting that your hubby is doing so much and that soon you will have a fab craft space. Please show us pictures. Please pretty please….
Wishing you and your family a very happy (and healthy) 2018,
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

Intriguing journal pages, Kate! I love the layers and your color choices are beautiful! Those yellow spirals remind me of the sun and the blue in the background – a Carolina blue sky! Love all the texture and your amazing ability to layer! I am delighted you are playing along with our Three is Not a Crowd challenge at Frilly and Funkie! Those spirals are a great way to show off those 3’s! Hugs!
Beautiful and inspiring as always! Love seeing how you layered up the paints and texture. Your new craft space sounds inspiring!
