Who Doesn’t Love Summer Reading? : Daily Art Practice

Couch Talk

Well, it’s August. Need I say more? I am not sure where the last few months went but they flew.

I didn’t have a lot of time to bake this week. Between Dr.’s appointments, errands and daily evening VBS we were tired.

But I did have time to finish a couple books and make a few quick sketches.

Summer Reading

I am loving that the libraries are open again. Our library recently got their interlibrary loan system up and running again and here are a few of the books that I have been reading. All of these were fabulous and I wish I had taken more time on each chapter but the 3 weeks passed too quickly so I ended up speed reading a few days before they were due. Have you ever done that?

Watercolor Shop Fronts

Last week I shared my first paintings for the Singapore Shopfront challenge. They are a combination of watercolor, pen and gouache.

Here are a few more.

This first one, the Darwin Room,  is actually in Tokyo but I am including in my sketchbook because I like it. I mean, it has plants growing out of the walls, what is not to like? AND it is a bookshop/restaurant!

Tea Day

I am joining the Tea Day Ladies hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard. My tea,Teavana Citrus Lavender Herbal Tea , is a new tea I found on clearance at Walmart. I wasn’t sure I would like this one because of the Lavender but I have found it to be very soothing and I love the flavor combination.

Happy Tea Day,

Kate

  • Your challenge watercolor shop fronts are absolutely gorgeous Kate!! Your truly are in your element here. We are so happy too to have the libraries open again- and have also done some speed reading before the due date:) Enjoy, and happy T day!

  • You have another week of fantastic architectural art Kate. I’m with you and that Darwin Room building. What a cool looking place. It does look very Japanese Those library books are definitely working for you. And I know, hurrah for libraries opening up again. Hope August is starting off well for you and have a super T day. Hugs-Erika

  • First – I want to try that tea. I love lavender. I will have to see if my Wallmart has it. Great looking books!

Your art is really beautiful and makes me want to go get those books and start practicing!

    Happy T-day!

  • You have some beautiful paintings this week, Kate. I love the architecture and those incredible plants. They even look like their real images you showed us. I also love the tea container you drew, too, I have one of those containers and it still has loose leaf tea in it.

Your tea sounds good and I love lavender. It is even better when you can get it at a reduced cost. Thanks for sharing your incredible drawings/colorings and your tea with us for T this Tuesday.

  • Hi Kate, your art gets better and better, love all your have made. The last one is may fave today. My great auntie used to drink lavender tea every evening, but I’ve never tried it. Happy T Day, Have a great week, hugs, Valerie

  • Good morning Kate, I really love your art and you have found some good books to reference. there are some good videos on craftsy too.
Summer is going by pretty fast for me too but fall is my favorite time of year so looking forward to that cooler season.
Happy Tuesday and new week ahead Kathy

  • Wow, so many amazing paintings! I’m in awe of your artworks – stunning 😀. Sounds like you’ve had a busy week too and your cuppa choice sounds delicious! Wishing you a very Happy T Day and a wonderful August! Hugs, Jo x

  • My oh my, you sketches/watercolors are getting better all the time. These shopfronts are gorgeous. You have really benefited from those books even though you had to read some of them in a hurry.
I’ve been trying to figure out what VBS stands for. I Googled it. I assume it’s not a computer program, so I guess it might be Vacation Bible School.
I’m not sure about lavender tea either, but I’ll never know if I don’t try. (And I have always bravely tried all things unknown when it comes to food and drink)
    Happy T-Day,
    Take care,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  • Your shop front paintings are fabulous. I think I would love to visit the Darwin Room. Books and food what’s not to love? Happy T Day

  • I have seen a couple of those books recommended. You clearly picked up some tips – your sketches are absolutely wonderful. I love the Japanese plant covered, building, which also looks like a great place to visit. I love lavender but I will pass on the tea – pleased that you have found another one that you like! Belated happy T Day, Chrisxx

  • Your watercolor store fronts are beautiful! You’ve captured the essence of each one and makes me want to see what is in the inside of each place.
