Who Is the Girl With the Fan? : Mixed Media Card

Couch Talk

Today was the first day in a few weeks that I was able to sit at my table to create and it was quite relaxing. I love listening to audio books or soothing music when I am making art as it focuses my attention. Also, I am trying to get in as much reading as possible for the library summer reading challenge. Right now I am listening to this interesting read. It is a historical fantasy fiction.

Also, a special thanks to the host of tea day, Elizabeth, for this little packet of goodies she sent me for the 7th anniversary of T day.

Creating the Card

I always enjoy taking up an old project. As most of you know, I pretty much only use paper scraps and stamps in my art at this stage. I have an entire craft room full of supplies but I rarely dig them out to use. I suppose I am stuck in a rut. Also, I hate wasting even a scrap of paper so I make it my mission to use up what is out before breaking out something new. I think that is a detriment because I don’t even know what I have at this point.

I started this card a while ago but put it aside. The background has been layered with paper scraps and then washed with gesso. I stamped the background with a PaperArtsy stamp and then embossed with StencilGirl.

Lastly, the main image is by PaperArtsy as well as the stamp I used on the die cut stamp.

Tea Day

I am joining the ladies for T Day over at Elizabeth and Bleubeard’s. My drink of choice is tea. Here is my favorite tea to make, Pumpkin Pie tea. It is spicy, comforting and delicious with honey and heavy cream.

Here is my cabinet where I store my herbs to make tea. They have been purchased online, at the Asian grocer or grown in my garden. After a while of dreaming, this weekend I finally gave this corner cabinet a face lift in this beautiful green color. I haven’t put the doors back on yet but I am thinking of leaving the doors off the top and just reattaching the bottom ones.

What do you think?

Happy Tea Day,

  • Hi Kate, I love your cabinet! Perfect for your teas and herbs. the doors would keep everything cleaner-less dusting.
Loved your art piece too-you are always sooooo creative Love seeing what you make.
I love pumpkin so your tea sounds delicious–Happy T Kathy

  • Oh I do like that green. Green is my favorite color. Surprisingly so many people don’t seem to like it. And nice card too. I know what you mean about using scraps and then having a stash that you forget what is in it. I am going through mine right now, but it is a big project. Hope you have not only a great T day but also a nice week. Hugs-Erika

  • What a really beautiful card! Such wonderful layers, colors and balance!
Your tea cabinet is fab, and I love the color (something i wouldn’t have said some years ago:):)
Before I forget (as I did forget to mention in my post)- you asked what I do with all my index card art. Well, sometimes they go on journal pages, sometimes onto note cards I send out as happy mail, and sometimes if someone mentions a specific card they really like on my blog or IG I ask for their address if I don’t have it and then mail it to them:)
Your tea would be one I’d very much enjoy in the colder months:) Happy T day!

  • Hi Kate, I LOVE the green cabinet, wow! Fantastic. The Japanese card you made is beautiful, love the layering. Glad you were able to settle down and craft again. Enjoy your tea, take care, hugs, Valerie

  • Your green cabinet and all the herbs are wonderful. I love the Egyptian influence, too. So is your incredible Japanese inspired art, too. Glad you got the gift, although we are revealing everything next T Tuesday. I guess you didn’t see that we will have the reveal party then. Thanks for sharing your art and your herbs to make tea with us for T this Tuesday.

  • What a lovely gift to receive. Your art card is beautiful. Your tea looks delicious. That cabinet came out fantastic with the face lift you gave it! I love it open like that, but if it’s like my house, dust will get into it (unless you dust frequently, unlike me), so I would put the doors back on. Happy T-Day!

  • I love your art. My Dad would, too, I still have a Japanese paper-umbrella he brought me as pressie.
And your cabinet, beautiful, and awww, great mail you got, too, happy T-day!

  • What a beautiful card! I love all things Japanese .
Your cabinet is awesome! And I love the colour too. It is my hubby’s favorite colour. And because if he has a choice, he always chooses green when given the choice, I have got used to it and it has grown on me. So, yes, that is a wonderful colour green. As to the doors… I like the look of all the little bottles etc. so I would probably have glass doors made. (which is easy in a village with at least 6 carpenters), but I don’t know if it would be that easy where you live.
Wishing you a very happy T-Day,

  • Yes, the fizz in my kombucha was perfect in every bottle except one (strange that…). I used raspberries from frozen. Normal supermarket stuff, but defrosted of course as to not kill the yeast. Four or five berries in each bottle. The flavour was excellent too. My hubby is now totally ‘addicted’ and has asked me to buy more bottles so we can have some on the go all the time.

  • Lovely card. I’ve never seen a fan button before. Very unusual. Nice shade of green for your cabinet., too. Take care and Happy T Day

  • Elizabeth sent you some great stuff for layering.

Fabulous card, Kate! Unlike you, our isolation inspired me play with more of the stuff I haven’t used in a while. And that inspired me to reorganize to get almost everything within easy reach. A win-win.

The green cabinet looks smashing! Gorgeous color.

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  • That’s such a beautiful ATC and fabulous goodies from Bleubeard and Elizabeth – enjoy! Your artwork looks amazing, loving the layers and vibrancy as always 😁. Wow, your green cabinet is well stocked and looks so organised with all those herbs for making tea – love it! Take care and Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

  • Hi Kate! I like your cabinet in green and with the doors off. I love seeing all your herbs and teas. The one you made sounds good. I love that card, too! I hate to throw any scrap away! LOL I therefore, have not only 20 plus years of accumulated craft items and supplies, but the same in scraps! LOL
    Happy T Day!

  • Glad that you are able to relax! Your Japanese style card is wonderful- I wonder if I will ever mak much of a reduction to my pile if scraps! I Love your green cupboard Happy T Day, Chrisx

  • Terrific card ~ I really like your tea cupboard! I would leave the doors off the top for easy access and it looks so inviting that way. Just save them in case you change you mind 🙂 Enjoy your week ~
